Anyone fancy a project? 244 on eBay-I have the missing parts

All,

A thought, there’s a 1977 244 Anniversary model on eBay at the moment with no engine or gearbox – if anyone fancies taking it on as a project I have the following that I’d sell cheap as a package to help complete it:

B21a engine with carb, inlet manifold, airbox – it’s got an M cam in it, but I have an A cam I could sell with it
4 speed gearbox with flywheel, relatively new clutch, propshaft, gearstick etc.
Good condition standard exhaust apart from the downpipe (for an estate, but the same as a saloon I believe)
Girling front calipers for vented discs that work, but could do with a rebuild (the seller says the car is missing them)
Set of worn but straight and usable discs

Off the top of my head the missing bits are (and assuming you’d convert it to manual at the same time):
Exhaust downpipe
Alternator (I have a 940 one but I think it’s a bit big for the 240 location – I could be wrong though)
Radiator
Radiator top brackets
Radiator hoses
Power steering pump – looks like a power steering rack in the photos, perhaps the pump is there?
Engine mounts and brackets
Gearstick rubber gaiter
Manual gearbox cross member
Pedal box
Clutch master cylinder
Clutch hose

Various nuts and bolts etc. no doubt.

None of the missing bits would be either expensive or hard to find as they’re the same as on the later 240s - apart from the power steering pump, as the early ones are different, but I think a later one could be used with a little ingenuity. A quick raid of a car at Lakes the Volvo breakers would provide all you needed.

Using the above would mean converting the car from auto to manual, which some might say isn’t original – but on the other hand it’s a period correct engine and gearbox and it would be back on the road.

The diff in the car will be geared lower as it was originally an auto, but I know of a manual rear axle which will be available soon from someone although I don’t know how much that would be.
I also know someone else who has a 5-speed gearbox with cable drive for the speedo, if you fancied upgrading to 5-speed, although I don’t know how much that would be.

Or buy a turbo engine and build a sleeper. Or put a V8 in it. Or convert it to electric.

For the avoidance of doubt I don’t know the seller of the car and I haven’t seen it, so don’t know how much work the car needs in addition to putting an engine in it.

All parts located in Cambridge.

Cheers

It sounds the ideal car for you, as you have most parts!

I saw it too and liked it but lack of garage where you could work indoors would put me off. If so like tinkering and a project a good way to learn.

I thought I would need to spend £3.5-5k on full restoration

2.5 k for rust repairs and full respray. In a nice powder/light blue.
1.5K on engine parts and any other parts needed.
£500 for engine install labour.
£500 miscellaneous.

Hope someone who has the mechanical means and space can restore it.

I take it its MOT and tax exempt?

James.
