Where to find engine number on my 2.4 engine (940)?
I want to order a part from Skandix and I need to know the engine number to specify the right part. The car is 1994 940 2.4 diesel.
Where on the engine should I look to find its number? Alternatively, can I get the engine number from the car's VIN? Thank you. Martin |
The engine code can be deciphered with the 6th and 7th digit of the VIN. Yours should be D24TIC if I'm not mistaken.
The engine serial number should be stamped into the head, sometimes on a white label on the cam belt cover, but someone more familiar with this engine can confirm. |
how did they manage to only get 240nm out of a six cylinder turbo diesel?

The VW part number is as shown for the head - have looked up the number 075 103 373R which I hope is a d24Tic, but have not so far confirmed.
BTW which part are you looking for? VW made lots of engines based on a 400cc cylinder, the golf 1.6 (d16) audi 100 (d20) and LT35 (d24) this last being the one sold to Volvo. jor |

Sorry for the late reply. I was after the vacuum pump. I found the engine number - if I remember right it was below the vacuum pump and essentially unreadable. But I took a photo and managed to enhance the contrast to read it. I bought my 940 in 2005 and have now done over 300,000 km in it so around the same total as you. Regards Martin |
Servo
If you are changing the vacuum pump because your brakes are not assisted check the brake booster isn't bad also. Mine was broken.

I ordered a new pump and, a week later, he fitted it for me for 15€ while I waited. I am sure I could have fitted it myself but, in the time he took to do it, I would still be hunting for the right spanner. |
