Enquiry

Hi cheshired5,

I have a laptop with:

i3 M350@2.27
3Gb RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate, its 32bit.

Can this be used with Dice / VIDA ?
If so, do you have a copy available.

Regards.

After sales service... Superb

I am a Luddite, there I have admitted it. I purchased a unit rom Simon, who not only sent me the unit and software very promptly and securely packged, but he also pointed me in the direction of his step by step installation video.

Not only that, but when I had an issue when first using the VIDA, he assisted me through the process and it turned out that what was a list of faults as long as your arm were historic and once erased, they didn't come back. That in itself is the unit paid for, as I am sure that would be a licence to print money in the local garage!

If you are looking to get one of these units, look no further than Cheshired5.

Hello, I would like to know if it is valid for Volvo S40 T4 of the year 98, and if it brings a language pack, since if it is possible to have it in Spanish, it would be good for me, thanks

For a 1998 model year, Vida would have the complete workshop manual and parts catalogue only.

Diagnostics using Dice and Vida are only possible for 1999 model year onwards.

T4spanish Oct 15th, 2019 21:38

It's a shame, I would have liked to have it and be able to use it

If you send me your 17 digit chassis number, I can confirm.
You may have a car which was built in 1998 but is actually a 1999 model year.

T4spanish Oct 15th, 2019 21:42

ok, tomorrow I confirm, thanks

Thank you.
You have a 1998 model year so it is the workshop manual and parts catalogue only.

No diagnostics.

T4spanish Oct 16th, 2019 12:40

Thanks anyway, I would have liked to be able to do car analysis to detect breakdowns

Hi,

I don't have enough posts to PM direct, but I'd like to purchase the software & reader bundle. (mainland UK delivery) it's for a 2009 V50 D5, no VIN yet as I'm picking it up this evening.

If you can message me your paypal address and details I'll get this sorted.

Thanks

cheshired5 Oct 16th, 2019 13:52

Pm sent GuyWMD ^^^^^.

Still for Sale ?

There are 10 pages in this thread, so if somewhere in the middle the DICE Interface has been sold, my apologies!

If it's still for sale, I'm interested.

Thanks

Are we able to activate cruise control and such with DICE or is it dealer activation only?

Given the cost of software and a valid subscription, I would leave that kind of stuff to a main dealer.

Dice and Vida still have many uses and features though which make it an essential tool for DIY.

Free Vida virtual machine including Electronic Wiring Diagrams (EWD) now available to all my Dice buyers.
Perfect for Mac or Linux users who have no choice or users of Windows operating systems other than 7 Professional.

1. Download and install Virtualbox for free from their website.
2. Download and unpack the VM using the cloud storage and private YouTube links I provide.
3. Set up the Dice using the same video link.

9GB download which unpacks to 25GB
The VM can also be extracted to and run from a USB drive if you don't want to store the VM file on your system.

Hi there. Sorry if this sounds like a noob question, but please hear me out

I know there's probably loads of things you can do with VIDA/Dice, but what would you consider in your experience makes it an essential tool from a DIY perspective? Or what have you used the software for most on your particular car? So lets say you serviced your car, can you turn the service light off & measure the correct oil quantity so you don't put too much oil in on these newer engines/ones that have had the dipstick recall using this software?

cheshired5 Jan 14th, 2020 00:34

Hi Kev0607
There's no definitive reason for Dice and Vida ownership to cover all cars as the functionality within Vida is car, model year, engine code and gearbox specific and it would take me too long to explain all of the 100s of diagnostics permutations for 16 years worth of Volvo models.
For some, just having the workshop manual, parts catalogue and technical information makes it worthwhile and for others the ability to communicate with up to 30 modules and countless combinations of live data is the selling point and for others it's all of the above.

For me specifically, I've done countless code reads, component activations and testing, climate control calibration, heated seat temperature setting, DRL settings which alone would have cost hundreds at a dealer. I've used the workshop manual to carry out 70+ jobs most of which are documented on my YouTube channel, used the parts catalogue to save a small fortune as it helps you find quality alternatives easily, the list is endless.

As a Dice and Vida owner, I also enjoy helping fellow Volvo owner's who can't afford the kit to at least get their codes read for free and I've done this 30+ times now over the years. In fact I found out about Dice and Vida 6 years ago when another member cleared an SRS fault light for me for free so I've always tried to give back.

Even owners of pre 1999 cars can use Vida for tech info, workshop manuals and the parts catalogue just not diagnostics.

The fact that you can also sell the kit on when you're done and recoup so much of your money back means that the net cost of having Dice and Vida is actually very low.
One of my first buyers to buy a laptop and Dice for £250 sold his Volvos last year and sold the Dice and laptop on eBay for £220 meaning his net cost for 3 years of Dice and Vida was £30.
Given that Dice and Vida are so readily available and reasonably priced, I can't see any reason why a Volvo owner wouldn't have the system.

If you pay a garage for a code read, that's £50-100 of dead money never to be seen again yet people still do it multiple times rather than having their own system which would give them unlimited code reads and priceless data for an affordable price.
Basically, if you DIY, it's a godsend.

Amen to that if nothing else. Just dropped £60 for a read yesterday and this was my prompt to get my own.

Hi cheshired5,

Thank you very much for your reply. I have an S80 & my Dad has a V70, so I think it may be a good thing for us to have Vida/Dice. However, I won't be investing at this present moment in time just after Christmas, but its certainly something I'll consider in the future.

Thanks once again. Oh & before I log off, your YouTube videos are great by the way.

Hi. Sounds interesting.

Ditto what Yogi said above, but ref a 2005 XC70 D5 auto.

Also, what port does it connect to on a Laptop? Are there any hardware requirements for the Laptop as I will have to get a cheap laptop?
ie. RAM, H/D space, processor speed, etc.

Thanks in advance and kind regards.

Hi if you see my quoted response above in post# 112, that should give you the basics but it's basically a main dealer level diagnostics system and workshop manual.

Yes it's easy to use with a little practice but I provide basic instructions to get you started and ongoing guidance depending on which features you're wanting to use.

Yogimobile Jan 17th, 2020 09:24

Ok thanks
That makes sense- so don't have to pay a dealer for diagnosing a fault or error.
