Auto problems

Have a V70 SE Lux D5 Auto. 08 reg, with 85k on clock. Owned for 2 years. love car, hate auto gearbox. Previous car was 99 reg. V70 with auto box smooth as silk. This cars autobox has a mind of its own jumping all over the place, as does the lock up clutch, late locking in and early dropping out leading to poor fuel consumption. Sometimes not locking up in steady traffic around 25-30mph. and dropping out at similar speeds as you decelerate towards islands etc.
gear changes are not always smooth with jerky operation, snatching etc. leading to uncomfortable rides at times.
The car has been checked by Volvo service agents, as our main Volvo distributer in Derby did not want to know when I enquired about an auto gearbox service. It has had the programming checked and reloaded and they say nothing is wrong. Only thing not undertaken is an oil change to the auto box.
My own feeling is the programming. Any ideas, suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Changing the ATF can do no harm. Looking at the colour of the existing fluid might help you decide if it is worth doing. If it's murky, change it. You cannot drain the fluid completely as a lot stays in the torque converter, so you have to dump and refill several times, the colour of the fluid remaining being your guide as the law of diminishing returns starts to apply after about three changes.

When I did the first oil change in my gearbox, which is of the same basic type, as mine is a six-speed from 2012, the gear change quality improved quite drastically. Still, I didn't think it was bad before the change. I did the change just because I believe in maintenance, not only repair.

The oil change took place after about 120000 km. The old oil was dark red, not the bright red it's supposed to be.
It's soon time again, since the car has now done 230000 km. I'll come back around Christmas, when that has happened, to tell if the second change also makes a difference you can feel.
About 12 l of oil was used in the change/rinsing.
