1985 volvo 740gl 2.3auto red saloon

Hello, Due to work problems i have desided its not longer viable for me to run a car & i would also like to take my HGV and have no money to do so! So i have to sell!

Okay,
What we have here is a 1985 Red Volvo saloon (pre cat) its the 2.3AUTOMATIC none turbo.

Body work.

Bad
Dent on front passenger door
Bad paint job on passenger side rear quater
Odd bits of surface rust around the archs
Odd scraps on the front bumer

Good

Drivers side / front / back of the car is pretty much 100% no scratchs or dents to speak of
Interior is good other then the drivers seat witch is showing some ware
Resently repainted steel wheels in silver.

Engine
I have very recently done a minor service where leads/plugs/fuel filter where changed.
New rear brake calipers & pads on both sides at a sum of £367.17!
Only issu i have with the engine at current is it stalls at low rpm and i beleave this could be coursed by some perished breather hoses.

Stuff.

The car is currently on standerd 14" Steels tho i do have 15" Virgos for an extra £40.
If you perfer the standerd grill i can swap over, car has Turbo grill at present (Witch i paid £40 for!)

MOT Expiry is August 4th 2010
TAX Expiry is Febuary

I am the 2nd owner and the car has done less then 75,000miles.
Car currently based in Hastings.

Please give me some offers to give me a value.

Thanks, Jamie.

Thanks.

Good luck, it's always hard to sell a saloon volvo, especially as we're coming up to xmas.

I guess that the people that would buy one ( ie us lot here ) would be buying for cash and that's no doubt all been allocated by Mrs Volvo Owner for pressies etc

Coming with a bid wad of MOT left and 4 most RFL to run it sounds like it could be a bargain for someone.

I would have been interested myself but the worn seat and the
lack of e/wins to the front would put me off.

Just a thought; perhaps your starting bid is too high - £300 - £400 is the kind of price that's out there for later 740 or early 940's - it might put people off from making offers?

She does look nice though.

I see you point, i dont realy celebrate xmas so i guess i forgot. lol.
If it doesnt sell ill keep it alittle bit more i guess... but its hardly used so it seems like such a waste!

Cheers, Jamie.

heyskull Nov 13th, 2009 15:33

I thought the starting and buy now price is a tad high!
Especially the issues of paintwork, interior wear and stalling problems.
The wear on the drivers seat doesn't look like 75,000 my 940 had this same material on the seats of your car and didn't have a mark after 165,000!
It is not the best time of year to be selling but if I'm honest there is very few second hand cars on the market at the moment (due to scrappage) and what there is is over priced.

Changed bid & 'buyit' price, thanks.

CharlesStevenson Nov 13th, 2009 22:39

Hi there, glad you changed the price, should help.

Best to wait and see at the end for any late bidders.

I agree the seat wear is very bad luck - my car has covered 175k and all that's happened to the drivers seat is about 1 inch of the seam stitching has come away without any material damage.

Perhaps it was caused by the studs from a pair of jeans?

I just looked back at the car and noticed, if I'm right that there's no rear headrests nor a radio fitted.

These might affect the price and makes the one previous owner appear to be of less value, especially when taken with the bodywork items you've mentioned.

Anyhow, if there's someone in your area that wants an inexpensive solid car, you could get a result - let's see what happens.

LankyTim Nov 13th, 2009 23:14

Nice early 740 saloon there, nice colour too!

Tho i did replace the interior in my Cinquecento cos not having rear headrests.

thanks, jamie

Yep i love the color.

CharlesStevenson Nov 15th, 2009 22:27

Just noticed you've still got 7 days to go on the auction - I think that'll put off any bids until the end, especially since your opening bid amount is around top money for the car as it stands.

Still, you never know ...

tenpastnine Nov 20th, 2009 18:46

Ends Sunday¬!

Give me at least some more watchers to be excited about! :P

Goodluck to anyone here who might chuck me a bid!

Thanks, Jamie

CharlesStevenson Nov 20th, 2009 18:53

Sorry, you're too far away from me up here in Peterborough - It'd cost a lot for the BR fare to Hastings and then the petrol home.

Good luck.

JUST £80!! How meny cars could you buy with 6 Months MOT for £80!?

Found the bill for the brakes Including labour and VAT
£367.17 just 6months ago!

CharlesStevenson Jan 21st, 2010 23:11

I guess it's just a case of where you're located that's causing the delay in a sale.

Looks nice.

tenpastnine Jan 21st, 2010 23:55

Im located :

HASTINGS
TN37

Evryone lives up north haha, its very hard to sell a car down here for some resen.

LankyTim Jan 22nd, 2010 08:21

Humm, megabus is pretty cheap!

CharlesStevenson Jan 22nd, 2010 09:29

Have you tried putting it in the friday ads?

It's good for less expensive ( or cheap if you want to be blunt about it ) cars.

You can put up a pic or 2 and it's free to get into the web edition

Try it; your ad should go live quite quickly and there's a paper edition that comes out each week.
