VOLVO 245 Bonnet

1 Attachment(s)
Still looking for a near mint condition bonnet for my 245.
It is a 1979 I think this bonnet was the same upto 1983 perhaps?

I would like to find one ASAP as the car is booked in for the bonnet work on the 12th May.

Money not an object for nice bonnet.

Photo of original bonnet below.

Thanks

colour does not matter as paintwork original will match easily.

I have many mint condition spares I could swap if preferred.

I might be wrong, but I suspect you'll struggle to find a mint flat bonnet quickly.

They're old now, of course, so most will have some deterioration or damage due to age. More importantly, these flat bonnets are highly sought after for converting later cars (as I have done) so they're pretty hard to find.

I did not realise people retro fitted them, had a look the lines are much cleaner I guess. Anyway I live have to live in hope, if not maybe the specialist Colonel Mustard is seeing can make original one good again. I just know we are talking a lot of hours work due to the complexities of the front underside.

Do you know what is an approxiamate fair price for a near mint "flat bonnet" if I do find one? Or at least what would you pay?!

There was a new-old-stock one (but with surface rust) advertised a while back for £150.

I have paid £100 for one that's good, but not great... then I struck lucky and got another one just as good for £20.

If a mint bonnet comes up for sale, you might be lucky and get it cheaper, but if there's some competitive bidding it would be over £100 and might even get to £200

If you post some photos of the bad areas of your bonnet, I can give you my thoughts about whether it's repairable.

Did that one sell? I think maybe better than mine..

£200 is what I had in mind, if I am lucky enough to find a really solid one. My bodywork guy said around 6 hours + so would come in a lot more to fix my one methinks but will send pics in due course.

It was on ebay, at a guy with a large stock of old Volvo parts in Preston. I have just checked and he's not listing anything at the moment, but he lists regularly - if I see him crop up I will send you a link.

I this his name is Tom Butterworth, but I'm not sure and I can't recall his ebay user name, but Steve might (user name Steve and his 244). I we have that, you could contact him directly about that bonnet.

I expect it would need to be acid dipped and then treated to remove the surface rust, so by the time that's done you'd come in well over £200 I think.

I spoke to Steve.

The guy's ebay user name is tombutterworth - I should have guessed that!

Steve thinks the bonnet might have been sold, but worth sending him a message to check.
