1st Impressions of my new XC60 T5

8 Attachment(s)
After a 5 month gestation period, my new XC60 T5 Inscription Pro finally arrived yesterday.

Initial impressions after one day are that Volvo have definitely made a massive upmarket change with this new model and having owned two previous 1st Generation XC60 D5’s this model is more than an equal for the Germanic BMW/Audi’s ranges.

I am mighty impressed and believe Volvo have a world beater with this 2nd Generation XC60 range and honestly cannot find anything to fault the car so far which for me as a perfectionist is a surprise.......!!!

Couple of photo’s attached.

Well, you are going to be in for a very big pleasant surprise on the 24th when you return to the UK especially as we have almost identical specs......

gaby Sep 16th, 2018 15:18

The exterior Looks very nice, much nicer than our "boxy" XC90!
I do like the interior of the XC90 somewhat better, less glossy black surfaces and vents.
This is, of course, a merely personal opinion

I was delighted to find the wheels that my dealer downgraded me from the std 20” to a set of 19” swapped from a showroom T8 were shod in MICHELIN LATITUDE Sport 3’s which are more fit for purpose on an SUV than some of the alternatives out there!

pagan8c Sep 16th, 2018 17:24

Picked up my XC90 yesterday and that has the Latitude sport 3 tyres (20").My last Momentum XC90 had the Pirelli tyres on 19" rims. The Michelins seem to hold the road better and there is less lean on the corners. I have not noticed any problem with road noise with the bigger wheel either.

Looks great Simon
How do you find the new seats
Best Regards

I don't/can't buy a new car every few years, and it's not only about looks
But if the new XC60 would have been available, the choice could have been in favor of it.

I don’t know how people can afford brand new cars as private buyers, genuinely?

Brill looking car by the way!

Thanks.
By using my VOC members discount backed up by a DTD discount email any private buyer should be able to achieve a min of 12% discount which with good negotiating skills could end up towards 15%.

Did you have to talk them hard into dropping you from 20 to 19 inch? I'm thinking of trying the same. Did you explore it at handover time or was it all agreed before you put your money down?

lalith16 Sep 16th, 2018 20:01

A great looking car Simon; congratulations and enjoy your car. The exterior styling kit definitely adds that extra style to the exterior.

Haldex Sep 16th, 2018 20:34

That’s a good looking car! Electric silver was my second favorite- I went for Osmium gray in the end- but every time an Electric silver goes by- I have doubts.. :)

Good choice of wheel size too- I think 19s are a perfect match for XC60.. they are well proportioned to rest of the car yet leave enough rubber to soak up the road imperfections.

I totally agree with your above comment on wheel sizes as I have just purchased a heavy SUV that IMHO looks draft running around on thin black bands, if I had wanted a car with black rubber bands I would have purchased a S60 or a V60 rather than a XC60...........or a Chelsea AWD tractor.........!!!

My XC90 is Electric Silver - it really stands out when parked alongside other silver cars.

It was verbally agreed at the time of placing the order that the dealer would do their best to arrange a swap with another suitable donor car.

In other words about £4000 depreciation at least.

just pay £250 + a month forever and you always have a fairly new car forever :-)

Crockers Sep 17th, 2018 01:19

Not an XC60 though.

Just looked at the pics my dealer sent me. Mines on Michelin too.

They work hard, do not waste money on smoking, and drinking, or other stupid things, oh and have no kids :)

I don't drink or smoke, but I have kids. I don't work anymore, after more than 40 years I found out
that it's not really my thing, so I gave up a few years ago
But I/we do buy stupid things such as new cars, although not too often

Pretty sure you won't get any of the new Volvo, SPA, CMA models for £250 a month!

Mine is £650 inc VAT, maintenance and 15k miles a year

Indeed, although we make up for the lack of smoking with Gin and 4 trips abroad per year!

It's really worth shopping around when leasing - my prices ranged from £370pm to £450pm for the same spec and 12+48. Over 4 years that's over £3.5k

That’s pretty crap isn’t it. I bought my xc90 outright with cash (I buy everything cash other than house). If I loose my job etc fine, I have no real outgoings.

To have a car etc hanging round your neck 3 years would not be for me lol!

Parky12 Sep 18th, 2018 21:13

Works for me
I don't need a mortgage due to spending my cash on a car and I wouldn't spend £40K+ on one anyway. At the end of the 2 years I can have another new car and it all costs no more than a second hand one overall. Best bit for me though is not having the sales guy telling me it's the wrong colour or last years model at trade in time

Anyway the T5 looks great can't wait to pick mine up in 6 weeks time

I do 3+36, I would never have a lease over 4 yrs, an out of warranty car, MOT, company pays for it anyhow.

no but a V40 is often less than £200 a month

RobQuads Sep 19th, 2018 22:57

Agreed no xc60 will cost you 250pm by long shot - well not without a very big deposit which when it comes to renewal time you will have to find all over again.

Crockers Sep 20th, 2018 00:31

This seems so unfair. Simon has shown us his car and the thread spends about 2 pages on the merits of pcp or cash etc. I'm to blame too. Lets start a new thread on that subject.

To be honest it sounds as though you are paying out for a mortgage but get a car rather than a house. I know where I would put my money.

anotherv60 Sep 21st, 2018 22:00

Fantastic looking XC60! Think I might prefer yours to my V90 R-Design in terms of looks!

Crocker. Only 3 more sleeps to go then the fun begins. Hope you managed to fit in some serious reading on the Manuals during your USA trip?

Crockers Sep 22nd, 2018 00:57

Yes. Have the dealer pick me up at 8 am on Monday. What's a manual :D

neon Sep 23rd, 2018 06:12

i have always been put off leasing as I have so many options added, inflating the monthly cost. Guess if I am ever tempted to buy a Japanese car or the like with most options standard that may be something I would consider.
