Engel portable fridge/freezer

Hello all,

Can anyone help?

I have purchased a second hand Engel portable fridge/freezer for the caravan and car.
It runs only off a 12 volt (cigarette lighter) connection.
Engel is an American or Australian make (from internet research).
The instructions on it are in Chinese/ Japanese so obviously made for the South East Asian market.

My question is; are the electrics, in particular the 12 volt adapter different to the European market and if so, could this cause problems if I plug the fridge into my Volvo V70 (2013) vehicle? Or would I be ok to run the fridge in my car and caravan?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Tom

Tom,

is this the brand...?

http://www.engelaustralia.com.au/2pr...roductid=21612

This is the UK distributor http://www.mps-trading.co.uk

12v dc s 12v dc.

What does need checking is if the units consumption is greater than car supply can handle. Your cars owners manual has the 12v supply sockets max ampage listed.

There should be a sticker/plate on the unit and the manufacturers web site gives the figures for each of its units.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with it. Which model is it?

Hello Ruby,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes that is the brand, the unit I have I believe to be an older version, portable, with a strap attached. All writing on the labels are in Chinese/Japanese. The only thing I can deduce at the moment is that there is a label with what I believe to be a date on it, if that is correct the date is appears to be July 1995, so am a little dubious if that is right as the unit appears to be newer than that.

I tried to post a photo, but was unable to do so.

Thanks for your info, am going to contact MPS this week and see if they can shed some light on the matter.

Will let you know how I get on.

Regards
Tom

Is this the model you have by any chance

https://www.portablefridge.eu/portab...md14f-14l.html

looking at the specifications power rating at 12V is 32watt which is under 3A so you should have no problems running it from your power socket, even looking at the latest model which has a 40L capacity is still only draws 32watt at 12V.

just don't leave it connected to any powered socket while the car is parked up for any length of time with the engine off, it will soon run the battery down.
