D5 180BHP - Engine Warning message

I have been getting the engine warning light coming on and the car then fails to rev over around 3000rpm.
Local garage reckons it's the Air Mass Meter (Is this the MAF?) with a cost of 185 + VAT does all this seem reasonable?

Thanks

It depends what the fault code is ,,, and even if the code relates to air mass meter it could be an air leak through a damaged hose ...

I don't know the exact error code but I was told it was the air mass meter that needed replacing, I was just wondering whether it will definately be that, whether it is common fault and whether the cost of the replacement was reasonable. Cheers

No its extremely uncommon on this engine to have an air mas meter fault especialy on a car so recent ...it is a lot more likely to have air flow problems which can set the air mass code because the air mass meter is measuring all the air going in but if some escapes then the calculated air flow will differ hence the code . cost of an air mass meter has always been around £250 historicaly with volvo ... Just make sure that if they replace the air mass meter and the fault comes back a couple of weeks later that you you dont have to pay for the air mass meter ... If they have substituted an air mass meter from another car and all is now ok then thats fairly conclusive proof that it is indeed faulty ..

Thanks Clan, I got the impression from my mechanic that he wasn't going to look anything else and wS convinced it was the air mass sensor at fault, not a Volvo specialist so I would assume the costs would be down to me whether or not the sensor fixed the problem.
Can anyone recommend a Volvo specialist in Essex, it might be worth a second opinion.
