Just to clarify - if I'm wiring in the lights for auxiliary instruments, is it better to run them from 58b, or is it ok to run them from 58a? Ideally I'd like them to run from the same source as the instrument lighting, as then the illumination will be more coherent.

Thanks!

If you have bypassed the dimmer as shown, it doesn't matter because 58a and b are now one and the same node. If you have NOT bypassed the dimmer and wish to connect aux instrument lighting, you must first make the choice of connecting to the non-dimmed node (58b) or the dimmed node (58a).

I have been following this thread with interest as I am at the stage in my rebuild where I am tackling lights. The current position is that my front lights work but the instrument lighting and rear lights do not. Rons explanation of the number codes against the light switch terminals has moved me on a bit and I suspect that the wires of interest in this case are the two white ones but I'm not quite there yet. Words of wisdom and experience always welcome.

Hi Jimbo. Turning the knob dims the dash lights :lightbulb:

Remembered this posting as our dash lights stopped working . Assumed the rheostat dimmer was faulty so piggy backed onto 58b but still no light . This is when you find tolls you have are not where you thought , anyway after a trip so the localmotor spares and a new circuit tester power is going to the sockets . It then took me a while to figure why no light , the dash is earthed . Anyway we now have non dimmed instrument lights and it looks like the dimmer may still be working but I've a feeling it warms up and stops as the lights go out which is why the non dimmed route . Anyway good to be able to use a post like this .
