What not to do when Waxoyling!!

Since getting my '94 940 Wentworth Estate, been going through a number of issues that need fixing.

Had been wanting to research best thing to us to preserve the old girl, and whilst trawling online came across this rather humorous post from Land Rover forum.

https://forum.retro-rides.org/thread...ny-post-waxoyl

Probably been floating about online for years, but I hadn't seen it before.

Makes me feel slightly less of a numpty, Enjoy!!

Cheers
Steve

A bit of schadenfreude for a Saturday morning :D

... as long as we can remember it later as we lie beneath our beloved Volvo we'll be all right.

Very amusing Steve and various parts of it so true to my experiences with Waxoyl. Pleased that I’m not the only one to have to thin it and warm it and have unplanned experiences with it.

It gets even better when you use the black colour and it's thinned with engine oil!
One way to get a second wife I suppose.
Be afraid!!
Bob.

I haven't pushed my wife that far (yet), just the odd occasion coming in with petrol or transmission oil on my clothes to be told 'You stink! Go and have a shower before you come near me'.
The hard to explain situation was when as a lad I decide to lubricate my bike chain with one of the old fashioned grease/oil bath type thing that had to be heated on the stove, trying to explain to my mum why her kitchen smelt of motor oil and grease was a tricky one.

Waxoyl probably helped on British Leyland tin about 50 years ago, but there's better more convenient stuff available now.

Travelled down to Kent last month to fit some new hubs and spray Fluid Film Black underneath. None of this heating up malarkey, just shake and spray.

Took about 1 hour going slowly, used gloves and a shallow cardboard box to catch as much overspray and drips as possible. Used IPA to easily get any off the floor. Good for another 24 years!

As I recalled on another thread. Waxoyled 'er indoors Metro many years ago, well I made such a thorough job - in all the cavities, inside the doors, everywhere - it stank to high heaven, even.parking it in the mid-day sun on the hottest summer day with all doors open didn't diminish the smell. Ended up selling it as she rightly refused to drive the thing.

What a great read! :D

Very timely too, as I'm about to appoint someone to lather the underside of my 850 in waxoyl. This isn't the first time I've heard of people commenting on the longevity of waxoyl's odour. I might have to ask for a new quote using Dinitrol instead ! :D
