V40 D2 cross country lux 2016

Dear all, Having xc90 for the past 5 yrs. I fancied to buy v40 cross country D2 for my wife.
Could you please give your thought if you own one .
Any ups and down of the car will be helpful to choose.
Iam surprised to see high mpg for this diesel cars.
Any hidden for issues or stuff like that please advise.
Thank you.

I have both an XC90 and a V40.... the XC90 has now 180k on it and the V40 is doing 100 miles a day.

So straight to your questions:

V40 plus points:

- Very comfortable, especially Volvo seats
- Has new Volvo dash and sensus system which is very logical and easy to live with, my V40 is almost the same in that respect as my last XC60.
- No major mechanical weaknesses
- Very safe
- Luggage space not too bad

V40 issues:
- Rear seat passenger room limited
- Rear visibility quite poor (get parking sensors)
- Can be a harsh ride (probably better on the CC model with longer suspension travel)

If you are looking at early ones, the SE Lux is best spec as you get Xenon headlights (very good) and the nicer instruments. Check also it has a DAB radio if that is important to you - it was an option in the early years. Sat NAV desirable from a resale point of view.

Whilst the D2 isn't a bad engine - I went for a D3 which is a 2.0 version of the old D5. More refined and much more power for a relatively minor drop in MPG (get 55 in the motorway).

You wont be disappointed...

I will echo what Tannaton has said and add that you should get a CC with smaller diameter wheels for even softer ride. The front seat is not really suitable for anyone over 6 foot and get one with the reversing camera if you can. I have the T5 and if I drive like Miss Daisy's chauffeur I can easily get over 40mpg.

Thank you Tannanato for your elaborate explanation and Id5. That was a sound advise.
Iam after v40 2 DE cross-country Lux Geartronic.
It has parking sensors already , so one is sorted.
How about ride quality in this.
I never dealt with dpf before, My xc90 didn't have it.
Considering 20 pounds per year for road tax, will this be an issue in future for dpf blocks. I know I have to go for a harsh drive in motorways. But , Will this car be helpful for short journeys?

Thank you.

DPF isn't really an issue on those, you have to be really unlucky to get an issue or just really neglect the car.

the D2 auto is quite nice imo, sport mode seems livelier than the manual equivalent in my mind.

Very important to get the oil changed in the gearbox every 50k/4 years (assuming your looking at the 1.6 D2's and not the 2.0 one)

We have loads of customers getting 50+ mpg easily only doing short trips in these with no dpf issues

Thank you for the input. It was 2.0 one from cargiant.
Is there is an issue with 2.0?
Thank you.

There is a recall on some 2.0's for ECM software update, nothing major. most likely be done already on anything your buying, doesn't really affect anything but brings the engine light on.

the more powerful 2 litre ones had issues with the EGR, but Volvo usually covered that, although its very unusual to see the issue on the D2 version of the engine.

The 2.0 D2 (post 2015MY I think) is Volvo's VEA engine.

I had a v40 D4 vea, used it for lots of short school runs, only 2 mile or so,but religiously gave it a 20 mile brisk run every week so important to allow regeneration of the dpf.
I had the egr recall done when i 1st owned it,i think it only affected the D4 though.
It gave me no problems over the following 20k miles i owned it for.
