What sticks to Volvo carpet?
 

We've recently purchased a 2013 V70 and got a boot liner made for it - the recommendation is that we stick the fluffy part of the self adhesive Velcro to the carpet in order to fasten the liner in. I'm hesitant to do this as getting it off again if we ever need to is likely to cause some damage to the carpet (correct me if I'm wrong).

Has anyone found anything that will stick to the boot carpet without the need to stick something directly to it (e.g. another type of hook and loop fastener where the hooks are good enough to grip the carpet)? Another alternative I was looking at is using some self tapping screws to put presstuds on the carpeted area that the liner can mount on to (thinking being that a small hole from a self tapper is likely to be hidden by the carpet pile if it was ever removed).

Good call... 2 problems I can see with that, both of them reactive collies who I don't think would appreciate a Labrador sandwiched between the liner and carpet :tounge_smile: Now, if only I could weave a Labrador hair mat...

Have you noticed any similarities between the carpet and the fluffy stuff

Presumably your car has tie down hoops fastened to the boot floor?Would it be possible to cut slots in the boot liner to fit over these i.e. stand the hoops upright drop boot liner over them and then fold hoops flat again and hold the liner that way?

The hooked part of velcro should stick to the carpet material

If the carpet is the 'felted' type I would expect the hook part of the velcro to grip it but if you take the liner in and out often you'd end up pulling up that area of the 'pile'. I like your idea of a couple of small self tappers for studs. Or using the tie down points in some way.

If this liner is a reasonable custom shape to fit the car, it's not going anywhere. A good one will have a decent weight. What is it made of? Reversible carpet one side and rubber the other best but would have to be a compromise symmetrical shape. The usual problem is stopping things sliding around on the carpet/liner.

Double sided carpet tape is useful & doesn't effect anything if you want to remove the item- tape may have to be renewed depending on whats picked up.

This type doesn't move at all and just needs a hose out now and again.
