Dot 4 or 5.1 ?

Hi there,

I know they are interchangeable - But which should you use?

Many thanks

5.1 ideally as it's higher temp. But DOT4 is cheaper. I'd rather do more frequent fluid changes with the cheap stuff. (every other year)

If you are tracking it then go for 5.1

DOT 4 230 °C (446 °F) 155 °C (311 °F) 1800 mm2/s glycol ether/borate ester

DOT 5.1 260 °C (500 °F) 180 °C (356 °F) 900 mm2/s glycol ether/borate ester

Thanks for your response - so is there anything special about Volvo's dot 4+ ? Is this equivalent to 5.1 ?

Do you watch AvE? I'm pretty certain dot4+ is a ******teering term to mean exceeds dot4 spec. Ie approaching dot5.1 levels.

Lol it censored the word w@nker

Oh yeah doh! :) Thanks for your candid response - I'll omit the '*' in response!
