S80 D5 power steering/air con pump

Is it common for a failing aircon pump to cause problems with the power steering on these beasts ??? ('09 S80 D5 geartronic)

if so....are used aircon pumps handy to come by?? (my car has 440,000kms on it)

It shouldn't . air con pump is driven by its own belt and power steering by the auxiliary belt .

Would you by any chance know what aircon compressor model I need??

It has siezed and luckily the snapped belt didn't take anything else with it.

My car is a 2009 S80 D5 Geartronic (185)

Could be one of many so u better get part number from Volvo or get it verified from other supplier via VIN. My pump went in July and I found a replacment (bought new) on Ebay, not cheap at 285 but a lot cheaper than from many others.

I realise you asked this a long time ago, but the air-con compressor stretch belt is driven by the power steering pump, so in theory a seizing air-con compressor could lead to 'juddery' steering....

Well, turns out that the aircon pump was failing........because it has since seized.
I have been doing without A/C for the winter but will be looking to get it all sorted for the glorious Irish summer!!!

The car has 591,000kms on it now for anyone who's interested in things like that!

It seized in September didn't it? Bravo for doing without!

Mine is whining on and off, almost like it's resonating. I'm hoping a full clean out regas & lubricants will cure it.
