2011 V50 D2 cutting out AGAIN

Hello all,

I posted before about issues with my v50 cutting out and going into limp mode. After a forced DPF regeneration, a new fuel filter, multiple code reads and a trip to a Volvo specialist all was well for about 3 weeks. However it’s back to its old tricks and cut out again twice this morning with no warning. All dash lights came on. Thankfully both times was in slow moving traffic and the car restarted fine. . Does anyone have any clue what this might be? I am at my wits end now and have completely lost confidence in the car. My girlfriend won’t even drive it at all now.

If i can’t find what the fault is I am going to get rid, which is a shame as it’s a lovely car when it works and has only done 78k, but I am just not prepared to drive a car that cuts out.

Clutching at straws - was it dry(er) for 3 weeks and now we've had a load of wet weather?

You have my sympathy, an intermittent fault is a nightmare. I can only suggest that if all fault messages were cleared before, the one now showing could be the one causing the problem.

did you fit the genuine volvo fuel filter? They ARE different to all the rest ... It should have a blue dot on the top ...

It was dry on the day it happened twice. I’ve been away this weekend in it though, drove from Leeds to Perth and covered over 500 miles with no issues. Very frustrating.

Clan, I didn’t fit the fuel filter but the garage I always use did. Will have a look in the morning as it’s raining atm. They are a good garage, I’ve been using them for years and I trust them not to rip me off. They had the car for nearly a week trying to find what the fault was and didn’t even charge me for diagnostic checks etc. Just replaced the fuel filter and took it to a Volvo specialist they knew who had a VIDA software and did a forced DPF regeneration which solved the problem temporarily. I’m going to ring the garage again tomorrow and get it back in for another look.

I know. It’s a nightmare and I’ve lost confidence in the car to the point where I’m considering getting rid after it’s MOT in December. I’m going to take it back in to the garage next week and ask them to have another look.

Quick update, my V50 has been back to the garage for another diagnostic check and once over. No codes coming up this time. It hasn't cut out either (fingers crossed) for a few days and also got us from Leeds to Perth and back this weekend. So will play it by ear and see how it behaves over the next few weeks... I'm giving it one more chance and then getting rid if it acts up again as it's now been to 2 garages and a Volvo specialist, none of whom have found the root of the cutting out issue yet.

You haven't told us of the fuel filter has the big blue dot on the top .......

I’ll be honest, I have absolutely no idea where the fuel filter is and/ or what it looks like on this car. Any guidance is appreciated.
