Brake questions. PV 544
 

Hi, I have been checking the parts manual that I have(444 B16) and it seems to show self brake adjustment for front brake.My brakes have worm and wheel adjustment! Just wondering about the discrepancy and am I missing something ? having said all that which way should I turn the adjusting wheel to take up the brake. Should it turn in a bottom to top motion or VV?

I would try one way and see if it locks the brake up.The adjusters can be fitted either way round so you can only try it and see.

hi,444s have self adjusters,544s have the ones you describe-much better.

Most drum type front brakes use the "snail cam" adjusters, with the square on the backplate. Turning the adjuster clockwise moves the shoe nearer to the drum, taking up the slack.
