Fuel Pressure Sensor

I'm in need of a fuel pressure sensor, but am not sure of the correct part number.

It seems to be 31272733, but the sensor on my car is 30650014.

My car is a 2004 (31 December) 2.4i V50, but the sensor fitted seems to be for the V70 or S60.

Car is stuttering a bit now and sometimes feels down on power and has thrown up a fuel pressure sensor error code, so it all ties in with the sensor failing.

Can someone confirm the correct part number (happy to PM chassis number if required) and the best source for it. I've seen that T5 owners can use a part supplied by Land Rover dealers that is exactly the same and even has Volvo part number on it but it costs about £50 instead of £200!!

I had a problem with mine stuttering and showing EML
Had codes read and it came up with several fuel pressure faults !!
Changed fuel filter.......sorted hopefully and cheaper than a fuel pressure sensor as you have to buy the whole rail, worth a try

Yes your current part number does not appear to be for your car. It is for S60 / S80 and V70 W/O Turbo 5Cyl engines.

Your part is the one you thought it was: - 31272733

I would expect your current pressure sensor as it is not for your car and probably for a reduced pressure rate/bar rate then this is causing your symptoms and DTC.

Just make sure you don't mix up part number 31272733 for your 2.4i with the 31272732 which is for the T5, these parts are NOT interchangeable. I believe they have different calibrations. I know there is a LandRover and plain Bosch part number for the T5 version but unsure for the 2.4i.

No idea how the wrong sensor ended up on the car, but from the various problems I've had, I think the car was very poorly maintained by previous owner/garage.

I've felt ever since I got it that there was a problem at times with power delivery and this may well be what I've felt. Sometimes the car does surprise with a good turn of pace, but more often than not I've felt it was being held back.

Seems that not only was it the wrong sensor, but it has been deteriorating. Still intermittent, but that makes it worse in some ways as the car can suddenly pick up performance.

Was not anywhere as obvious prior to getting the dephaser changed. Now that is done and the VVT can perform properly, I can really feel the effect the sensor is having.

Will check with current garage if they think fuel filter may be needing changed.

Thanks for help. Any sources for the part at reasonable prices?

I got a fuel rail and complete with sensor used from Hills Motors Skelmesdale for £50, don.t know how long it will last but cheaper than £250

I can point you to place in America where you can import it from $43 plus $35 shipping to UK. You would then pick up another £10 customs fees or so.

I hope it was for the non turbo one as I'm sure it was black, the turbo ones are grey.

If anyone else finds this thread and are looking for a T5 fuel pressure sensor (turbo, grey one!), here is the list of parts you can use as Volvo part number: 31272732

Standard: FPS18
Borg-Warner: FPS518
L/Rover: PR4291
Bosch: 0261230239
Volvo: 31272732
Airtex: 5G1520
Ford: 1582665 £54 - LINKY!

The list of part above is for T5 Turbo and NOT the 2.4i - Just so people are 100% clear as you will ruin your fuel pump with the incorrect one on a 2.4i.

Sounds good - wouldn't mind a link for the black one and will check if it is correct for my car.

SonyVaio Sep 4th, 2013 01:52

Sorry this is the one I found for the $43 - LINKY!

This is NOT for your car and is the exact same as the one you want to take off - Volvo 30650014

I have had a good search around and the FPS/FPR for the 2.4i is pretty expensive.

Here is a few part numbers to be searching for which will all do the job:

Metzger: 0905364
Bosch: 0261230236
Bosch: 0261230237
Volvo: 31251446
Volvo: 31272733

Hi 138gat. We have this problem with my wife's S40 2.4i too.

I've been advised to change the fuel filter before we spend the money on a fuel pressure sensor.

Euro car parts list one, GSF list one, out of interest I phoned our local Volvo main dealership to see how much a genuine one would cost and was told that there isn't one, just a mesh filter in the tank! So I phoned another main dealer, and was told the same.

So, my question is, did you change the filter in the tank? Or is there indeed a normal filter somewhere, as per the ones that Euro and GSF list please?

Thank you,

Brian.

It's not that there isn't one just that it wasn't generally fitted to UK spec vehicles. The T5 is the same - 99.9% don't have them and just have the internal tank filter.
