Xc60 awd disabled

Hi,

My car is a 2014 XC60 D5 AWD R Design 53,000 miles.

I've read several threads on this subject and watched various videos showing the infamously flawed Haldex unit.
I decided before sending mine off for refurb. I would get it up on the ramp and give the unit a good clean internally with circuit board cleaner...Just to try it..

However when I got the car up on the ramp last Sunday I was shocked to find my Haldex unit looked very different to the ones I had seen on the forums with the 2 allen screws to remove.

Mines has 8 screws and mounted on the other side of the diff. Very similar to VW/Audi units

Has anyone had experience of these failing ?

The car has been Volvo serviced from new,Apart from last service which was by Evans Halshaw last August when I bought the car.

Is it worth contacting Volvo considering the low mileage of the vehicle?

Thanks

Same unit as this:

Well, firstly the haldex units are not infamously flawed... they are very reliable.

Secondly there is no description of symptoms so it’s a guess as to what’s going on?

Symptoms are that the AWD disabled service required message appears on the info display.

The most likely cause is low oil pressure due to a blocked pump intake gauze filter which is on the end of the pump . For some reason on the later cars a jelly like substance forms whilst the actual oil looks fine .
I would take the pump out take the filter off the end and clean it , clean out the housing , also replace the main filter behind a plate above the pump , then refill with new oil .
If the fault has been there for a while the pump will have worn out due to running starved of oil .

Thanks for reply Clan, Hopefully no damage been done. Message has been intermittent for a couple of weeks.
Will take your advice and do the oil. Does it have to be bought from Volvo or is there a good market equivalent?

you may be lucky .. No, use the specific volvo AOC oil , a friction clutch is lubricated by it .

The fact that it is intermittent is a good sign... if it was on all the time it would suggest the pump has failed hard.

Thanks Clan, Just checked and my car has the Haldex 5 unit, So I'll remove the pump and clean the unit, refit and refill with new oil.

Would 53,000 miles be about right for an oil change on the unit?
