alternator seized
hi all a little story
last night about 10.30 im driving home theres been a noise now and then for a few days on my 940 diesel well just passing stoke station the noise suddenly got really bad then a burning smell all the dash lights came on . i stopped straight away . could see it was the alternator . so a little panic i have a spare one at home so parked car on stoke station £24 bill this morning for 2 days ouch ! got taxi home £12 ouch . phone a guy this morning said just cut belt and drive steady home so no fan/alterntor working and off i went 4miles to home and alls well put spare alternator on and back on the road wish i had got in touch last night but it was late !!! some very helpful guys on this forum !!! |
Awesome result, well done. Very rare thing to happen.
Yeah some of use would've removed the belt right away saving those dastardly parking charges, but you got it home eventually. |
I sympathise with jpliddy. I don’t think that I would have thought of cutting the belt to get me home. It’s worth remembering though.

Hmmm, a slightly skew-whiff way of looking at this is £36 for getting the car home and a replacement alternator isn't too bad.
However, it's still an unwanted expense but at least you got it sorted with minimum fuss Jim. :thumbs_up: PS - i've not forgotten your resistor, i had a tidy up recently and just can't find the resistors at the moment! Been hectic just lately and haven't had a chance to mount an in-depth search! ;) :D |
