Forum Rules

This is friendly Thread/Reminder.

For those who have not read the Forum Rules, then it might be a good idea to do so.
For those who have, but some time ago (like myself, around 2002), maybe refresh, by reading them again.

They are at the top left of every forum home page, but here is the link:

Thanks,
tem.

Thanks Tem I joined in 2004 and always found the forum supportive and a valuable resource. A v70, 4 xc90 mk1s on and a brief dalliance with mercedes and bmw, we ve come back to a new xc90 which we are enjoying. I have noticed a decidedly different atmosphere despite the best efforts of responsible people it is a shame that there has been such a deterioration

I cant say I find it any worse or any better in the past 18 years. I mean I remember some time in 2004 when the whole forum was suspended due to some nonsense, which led to threats and then an alleged hacking attempt.....

That said I think if people could do 2 things we would all get along a bit better:-

1. Dont be thin skinned.

People often read something and immediately interpret it as 'having a go' at them. So they 'have a go' back. Then the 1st party escalates it and so it goes on. Often the meaning of a sentence is in the mind of the reader, not necessarily in the words of the writer. If you read something that you think is criticising you then either just shrug and move on, or if you are really upset, then click "report" and then shrug and move on.

2. If you disagree then always "play the ball, not the man".

There is a world of difference between writing "What a lot of bull****!" and writing "I don't agree with your opinion because in my experience I have found the opposite to be true". Attacking the individual is just a bit lazy. Carefully explaining why they might be misinformed and presenting your reasons why takes more time and effort.

Just my two penneth....

Worth a read

I found this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll interesting and re-read it after seeing some recent 'banter' on here.
