Occasional loss of power
 

So I have a 60 plate V50 in the 1.6 D2 variety, with one previous owner and a full Volvo history. Current miles at 107k

I have had the car about 3 months and occasionally I have noticed a slight drop in power after changing gears and then accelerating, not massively but enough for me to come of the accelerator then reapply and all seems well till the next time. But I feel this is happening more frequently now. It never did it when I bought the car either, never noticed it until having it a few weeks.

Granted it's not the fastest car in the world and I do drive nice and steady, i'm just accelerating normally, not hard.

Just wondering what might be causing it, could I have a turbo on the way out? As stated the car came with a full Volvo history but nothing else so have no idea other than service parts what else have been changed or not down the years.

I'm a bit concerned about this as I have currently got the car booked in for a service in 6 weeks anyway with also the timing belt due to be changed as well as it looks like it wasn't done at 87.5k. I'd be gutted if I have a turbo problem/replacement on the cards too

Anyone got any rough ideas?

sorry i cant help, but i think miine does the same, though mine is not on changing gear, it can be anytime, usually (i think) after running at a steady, light throttle.

My C30 D2 does have a big flat spot at around 1600 rpm, it’s always been like that. During winter when I drive the car harder to keep temps up (DPF regeneration) it’s not noticeable because I accelerate through it but when I go back to driving gently it comes back. The engine hesitates before it goes and if you’re in a gear at that rev range it feels like there’s no power. Numerous main dealer services haven’t highlighted any fault codes so I just put it down to a characteristic of the D2 engine.

I ruled DPF regen out as it has done it when the car is cold. It is literary just as you apply power straight after changing gear when you get (or should get in case) that boost of power before levelling out which makes me think it's turbo related. Doesn't happen at any other time and can happen between any gear change.

Silly question as I guess it's determined by a number of factors ie driving style, regular servicing etc but what sort of lifespan would you get out of a turbo on these models? maybe one replacement during the lifespan of the vehicle?
