Where...?

I've stickied this thread.

I think Andrew is reminding people that recording your exact location is a bad idea (I would list myself as being in central Lincoln, for example), as is having an unsecured wireless network. I think he's being a little paranoid on the latter point...I'd be more worried about my location being known because of the risk of car theft / someone popping round for "a chat" about a post...except that all my cars are crap and I'm an angel on the forum :D

cheers

James

I think being "paranoid" about internet security is a good thing. The "it won't happen to me" syndrome is why internet crime is a multi-million pound industry. OK so the chances of someone hacking your computer are small but so are the chances of winning the lottery. Also your neighbours can all see if your wifi is unsecured and will happily "piggy-back" your connection downloading goodness knows what at your expense. As the man said "just because you're paranoid it doesn't mean they're not out to get you".

Oh, I completely agree, but the chances of somebody using this map to locate you, then use your wireless network for some illicit activity to get you into trouble...? They're much more likely to just come round and give you a five finger sandwich if they have a grievance!

cheers

Absolutely, but I was speaking in general terms about unsecured wifi. Sorry if I've gone off-topic but I use every opportunity to spread the word about internet security.
