Alko ATC

Does anyone else tow a caravan with ATC with a new volvo? ( 23 plate)
I have a 23 plate XC40 B4 mild hybrid. When hooked up, unless the engine is running, sometimes the ATC switches of and then comes on again, each time going through its checking cycle.
I previously had a 69 plate XC40 and this did something similar in that sometimes you needed to open a door to get the ATC to come on. Dealer told me there is no really permanent live anymore as the car will switch off anything when the battery is a bit low and something is draining power.
New car seems to do this more often though and I suspect its being too clever for its own good.
Anyone had anything similar??
Thanks
John

Our XC90 B5D goes into hybernation mode and if i spend too long hitching the caravan up then like you i have to open a rear door and the IDC (BPW version of ATC) springs into life.

Ive also been caught out on site when ive turned off the engine on site and then start up to move and the IDC is self testing again and for a split second yor trying to drag a braked caravan.

So when the trailer lights self test and the warning about bliss being switched off and the IDC self testing buzzing away at the rear have all competed doing thier thing you can actually get on with the holiday.

Thanks for this reply!
I really think Volvo need to look into this. You really need a permanent live for ATC.
Volvo should be doing their homework before programming the towbar to behave in this way.

Alko ATC Resetting While Towing

Hi

This may, on occasion, be related to the very 'keen' stop/ start system on the B4.

The manual (for my 2022 B4D XC60) advises running in Performance mode, rather than Comfort, when towing. I think this switches off the stop/ start system as well as modifying the gearbox parameters for changing gears.

When stop/ start is active the car seems to be quicker to shut things down to save the battery for the restart.

Regards

Colin

This has got me curious as i dont recall the stop start being active when we are towing, we have a caravan trip coming up in few weeks so will keep a look out.
