Hi, Thanks for posting, can anyone who has had this optimisation tell me if it is worthwhile? I have a 2008 V70. Does it increase insurance premiums?
Thanks,
Jo

It will probably increase premiums if you tell the company

Paul Wildsmith May 19th, 2019 18:50

not necessarily - I'm with Aviva and no change.

If you don't tell, then a potential no insurance scenario if something unfortunate arises.

Insurance

We find that the majority of insurance companies do not increase with premiums with Polestar as it is a Genuine Volvo upgrade and is tried and tested.

Is it worthwhile?
- Well, I think so - see below (some courtesy of Lloyds)

Premium increase?
- Not necessarily - not with esure (in my experience) and not with Volvo Insurance either.
But you may need to shop around a bit, depending on your idea of an acceptable price.

I have had Polestar upgrades to both a V60 D4 and V40 T5, no change in insurance premiums with Axa. I also stressed it was an official Volvo upgrade.

Churchill also state no increase in premiums.

My Volvo isn't set to arrive until September but I'd love to get the Polestar upgrade at a discount. Do these offers come back around?

Buy now at discounted price, have it installed later.

Dan does the premium remain the same with this upgrade or likely to cost a bit extra?

RichieB Jul 7th, 2019 18:22

I was with Hastings insurance when i had my polestar put on my V70, when i called them before having it done they outright refused to contonue insurinbg the car, even though I stressed it was a genuine volvo 'part' they said it changed how it came out of the factory.

Switched to Volvo insurance and they added £6 to the premium for it..

Nice But Dim Jul 23rd, 2019 20:32

I too am considering Polestar on my 2018 V60 D4 whilst its on offer for 650 pounds at my local dealer

One question

Does the upgrade provide a new map to just the Dynamic setting of the car - or does it affect the other settings too (Comfort/Individual/etc) - or does it provide a new Polestar option in addition to the existing options

Many thanks

Chris Knott charged me an extra £57 because of the increase in HP after another adviser told me I’d just pay an admin fee because it was an official Volvo upgrade. I should have got the advisers name, lesson learned.

That's a bit harsh. I've been with Admiral the last few years as I had tuned my Focus but limited it to under 25% BHP gain. It saved me going to the 'specialist insurers as they always cost more.
I'm picking up a D4 V60 Momentum Pro and getting Polestar on it. Admiral are charging £33 for changing the car inc £19.50 admin fee. When i mention Polestar as it's less than 10% BHP gain, no additional charge.

The main trick is to let them know its less than 10% gain.

Where I take my money next is the outcome, I’ll be shopping around at the next renewal.

Polestar and Insurance

Just purchased a used V70 which has the Polestar upgrade. My insurance through Coop don't want to insure it as it is classed as a modification as it is not factory installed.
When I am doing an online quote what category does the Polestar Modification come under?

I usually declare a remap as an engine/performance modification depending upon what options are available.

Try Adrian Flux, Footman James, or indeed the club's own insurers https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/chris_k...nsurance.shtml

They don't understand what it is , you can try and educate them before going elsewhere as an exercise ...

It IS a factory installed software , the software comes direct from the factory live ....over very secure lines and arranged through their approved franchise dealer ... the fact that the factory warranty isn't affected and it is only a modest increase in power to what they are thinking must mean something ..
