S40 Headlining sagging (pics)

Absolutely gutted about this, my pristine car now looks like this inside. I've only just noticed this whilst cleaning in the rear but I think the summer very hot days did this, the glue used to attach the material has gone off/dry.

I carefully peeled at a small area near the rear window and it separated from the glue quite easily (but did kinda stick back again).

I've seen various dubious methods on youtube to fix this using spray adhesive but how much work would it be to remove the headlining and replace with a known good one? I'm guessing it gets fitted first at the factory and therefore needs a lot of the pillar trims etc removing (and the risk of broken clips etc).

Shameless thread bump but would anyone else mind checking their headlining? I was hoping for some feedback, the forum's a bit quiet....

Thanks! that helps a lot, given me some ideas, shame some of the pics are missing but I reckon I could easily remove the lining and have it re-upholstered somewhere that does car interiors/seats etc.

I definitely think the high heat this summer did the damage, I guess the Americans have the same problem.

Could you please expand on how you did this without making a mess or creasing the material etc.. thanks.

Well, I was expecting it to be a lot more difficult than it was.

Admittedly, mine was a bit more advanced. (The edges had become detached. It hadn't just 'bubbled', so I could access the back of the lining)

I just gave a few short sprays to the exposed parts of the lining, then kind of smoothed the lining back into place.

Go easy on the adhesive and smooth into place with a light touch.

Hope this helps.

Ah, right, to be fair it wouldn't take much for me to actually peel the material at the edges and expose the 'bubble'. I guess you need to use proper headlining adhesive, some of these spray adhesives can be a bit 'industrial' so could get out of hand with excessive use.

I did wonder about using Spray Mount as that's nice and light.

Shameless thread bumpage, has anyone else had their headlining detaching on S40/V50's?

Reason being; the brief but very hot weather this summer (remember that?) caused more 'damage' to my headlining which is now showing at the front near the sun visors.

Starting to think again about removing the whole headliner for repair.

Just digging this thread up from the past, my headliner is now beyond repair, have spray glued it back several times, but last years high summer really finished it off, it’s basically suspended by it’s edges.

Really keen to try and replace it myself, and the Volvo speed link above was informative but all the pic links are now dead. Does anyone know of a guide with any pics? It’s the removal of any concealed clips and the like that worries me! Cheers.
