using brake fluid

My 2009 2.5T (180,000 miles) has been using brake fluid for 6 months.
At first I though it was a case of not being long until pads/discs were needed.

On the second top up, I thought I had better get it checked out as I couldn't see any signs of a leak.
The garage had the car for a full day and couldn't find anything.
At this time my tick over was varying up to1,500rpm.

I was getting 5 weeks out a top up, so just topped up as needed until its MOT and service, where the garage could have another look.

They called me to say they that they had a found an issue. Fearing the worst, I asked what!
There was such a strong vacuum in the engine that the oil filler cap could not be lifted off.
They have changed the oil filter housing (a part of this is something to do with creating a vacuum, apparently).

The car is now back to its usual self, perfect tick over, no hanging on to gears and no brake fluid being used!

Just thought I'd share, as this could help someone else one day!
