Retro fit of cruise Control to a 940.

Hi
I have a 1997 940 Celebration 2.3 LPT, how difficult would it be to install Cruise and what would I need in bits, also if I have an intermittent speedo (who doesn't?) would that affect the operation of cruise.
Cheers
Bob

The car is pre wired for cruise control. You need the column switch, vacuum pump, throttle reel, bellows, some tubing, pedal switches and the control box and fly lead.

As to whether the intermittent speedo will be an issue it depends. The cruise looks at the ECY speed sigmal. If there is a problem with the tone ring in the axle it won't work properly. It won't care if the speedo itself is faulty.

The speedometer in my 1994 944T was bad when I bought the car. The cruise control would not work. Installing a good speedometer made the cruise control work.

If there's any interest, I could post scans of the original cruise control fitting instructions.

Cheers

No, that was used.

As promised, here's the installation manual for the KONSTANT FART device, as the Swedes call it :D

Cheers,
Sasha

PS: perhaps this could be made into a sticky?

Does anyone know if this system can also be put onto a 700?

I have an August '94 Wentworth 940 which has the second OBD box with a connection in the socket for testing Cruise Control. Does this mean it is likely to be wired up for it?
If so I would be very interested in the details of how to make the conversion...
Where did you get your kit SachaG?

Yes it can. The two parts that differ on the 700/900 cars are the brackets for the vacuum bellow and the throttle pulley. These depend on engine. The stalk is of course also different for the 760/960 post 1988 but the 740 has the same stalk as the 940.

You just need to collect and install all the parts in the instructions. I got my kit from Ebay DE, €150

migrator Oct 14th, 2012 15:25

Thanks for the instruction pages. I have saved these locally and printed off a set for use on the car.

There was a fully working cruise control set up on the 760 GLE (TART) before I sold the car but on re-purchasing the car I find thatbthe system has been dismantled somewhat. There are still pipes present and also some complete parts but this documentation will enable a full examination of what is now missing.

I want to re-instate the fully working system on the car.

nampramos Nov 14th, 2012 15:26

From the ones that installed the CC, did the fuel consumption went down significantly?

migrator Nov 14th, 2012 16:56

Not got round to mine yet. I am doing it more for the comfort that any other reason.

Could someone probably post a working link to these manuals? I hope to install a cruise control in my 940 soon. The manual would defenitely help!

Don't forget to tell your insurance that you have a retro fit cruse as it will increase your premium a bit

Does anyone know if there is difference between 9130207 (-95) and 9130081 (95-) control units?

Metallo Jul 26th, 2015 03:15

According to VIDA the P/N is 9130081 for 940 B200FT so the question is:

Is this P/N sold in NA and supposedly for the automatic transmission, different from the one sold in Europe for the manual transmission?

Guess what, my car is European but I live in NA...

Thanks
Alex

Anyone interested in buying a "Konstantfarthållare" cruise control from a 945 -97? :-)

stegreg Dec 8th, 2015 14:04

Conrad electronics, do a "universal" cruise control kit, for around £160, contains all the bits for a general fitment, including separate speed sensors to fit around the prop or driveshaft, Fitted a kit to my 940 and works fine, been on now for almost 2 yrs.

rogerthechorister Dec 22nd, 2015 10:01

Dopey question

I want to put a cruise control in my 760T and I have the parts from a 940 (manual) but my 760T is auto. What do I do with the switch that, on a manual, turns the cruise control off when the clutch is depressed?

stegreg Dec 22nd, 2015 15:26

The manual version of cruise control usually has two switches, one for the brake pedal, one for the clutch. If fitting to an auto, simply just use the brake pedal switch.

Also Rostra do a Universal Electronic Cruise Control that uses an elctronic servo rather than vacuum and takes its speed feed from the electronic speedo. I'm thinking of installing one in my 240.

Kind regards
Lucien

If you fit that kit, I hope that you will post your opinion of the kit upstairs in the 200 forum please.
