Diesel and carpets dont mix!

Hello all

I have been an idiot, I pumped some diesel out of an older car and put the canister in the rear foot well, some spilled out and got in the carpet.

Now before I throw several different chemicals on it, does anyone have any tips to get the diesel out properly and not masking it?

Many thanks,
Signed,
The Idiot!

Thanks, have read further that some people recommend using white vinegar, bi-carb along with the soap and water.... so will see how it goes!

You'll probably need something to break down the oil in the diesel first, something like kerosene or white spirits, then use a good detergent.

As Simmy says it may take several attempts with a wet vac and try to obtain a foam each time to lift the diesel from the pile. If you have a houshold dehumidifier leave it in the the car overnight.

to aid the drying process use some lining wallpaper folded to fit the footwell and stand on the paper this will blot up any moisture left behind as mentioned a dehumidifier would help the drying process also.
