V70 winter wheel suggestions

Currently running 225/50/17 and assuming winter tyres must not be any 'fatter'....and I'm sticking with 17".

Options appear to be:

* new 'non-Volvo' wheels, e.g. something made by Wolfrace
* 2nd-hand Volvo wheels (can't afford new ones)

I'm keen on new wheels (had good experiences on other cars) but not keen if adaptors are required....and don't quite understand what they're for, nor when they're required.

RE: 2nd hand, there seem to be choices of P2 V70 and S80 >'06 on eBay etc...is there anything I need to be aware of in fitting non-P3 V70 originals ?

You can have fatter but winter tyres work best when they are narrower and have a higher profile.

Aftermarket alloys should have the same bolt pattern but you may need to use spigot rings (adaptors) if the centre bore is larger. If it's smaller they wont fit unless you bore out the wheels.

IIRC they are the same stud pattern, but have a different centre bore. Can't remember if they are larger or smaller though.

I think you'd need spigot rings to make P1/P2 wheels fit a P3 as the bore is larger (as I recall).

Thanks chaps - In that case if looking at 2nd hand Volvo originals, I'll stick to rims designed for my hub, and not P2 V70 ones. I don't mind spigot rings if supplied with new rims from a dedicated wheel shop.

Just wish I could find a set of Canilculars. Never seen any for sale all year.

Anyhow, these wouldn't look too out of place on a V70:

They'll be a few quid once shod with TS860s.....

Have just fitted a set of steel rims with Nokian winter tyres from MYTYRES.
No hassle perfect fit

Typical, I just spent £560 on new steel wheels and same tyres.

I think I'd have them if they were closer - just have no time at all to travel anywhere...very well priced too.

Does anyone know if I can fit 225/55/17 on a front wheel drive V70 ? That's what I meant when I said 'fatter' in my original question.

Yes, and most couriers charge £40 for wheels and tyres anywhere in the UK.

Yes, my tyre size is 245/40R18 but I run 245/45R18 with no issues. It does effect the speedo but in my experience it makes it more acurrate, ie; with the larger size, 70mph on the DIM is actually 70mph according to 2 different GPS speed measuring devices, as opposed to the 67mph it is with the smaller size.
