S60 Servicing?

Hi all, I'm new to this forum as I've just bought an S60 D5 with 70000 miles. My question is regarding servicing prices from the dealer, my car is due a service after another 2000 miles and I've heard that the main dealers are very expensive. Does anyone know roughly how much services are? I normally paid between £160 - £300 for my previous car (Skoda Superb 2.5 Tdi) I love the car by the way, this is my first volvo and I'm sorry I didn't buy one before this. Thanks.

You don't say where you are. That can make a HUGE difference to what you pay the main dealer.

Hi, I live in Bangor, N.Ireland.

There was a website which showed you the labour costs by manufacturer for a given area. Can't find it now (probably been shut down).
Volvo main dealers in the UK usually fall somewhere between £75 and £100 an hour labour.
I think if the car is six years or older you should be able to get a discount on servicing.

Hi from another NI Volvo owner!

As a guide, my S60 (MY2007 D5) had it's first (18,000 mile) service in Greer's and this was £250 for what was basically an oil and filter change (including the cabin filter) plus the usual checks (pads, tyres etc.). Don't think SMW in Belfast would be cheaper. The biggest cost was labour followed by oil (6.2 litres of fully synthetic).

I'm stuck with the dealer because of warranty, but if your outside of this, i would go to a good independent. If you don't have any problems, there's nothing particularly complicated. You could buy the Volvo filters, the dealer uses Castrol oils which a widely available (your handbook should specify what you need) or if you post you model year / engine spec. someone will post the right spec.). You could also try www.castrol.com (choose UK site from drop-down on front page and then choose 'find right oil for my car' - you can go by reg. no. or model).

last year my dealer charged me £200 for an oil change. Decided to do it my self this year.

Filter tool £9
Filter plus oil plug washer from volvo £8
Oil from halfords, mobil 1 fully synthetic 0-40 6L = £53 (15%discount this week with a voucher I have)

Total £70

Saving £130 on last years cost

The job will take maximum 20 minutes and involves unscrewing one filter which you can get to without lifting the car, and unscrewing one drain plug and volvo charge £200 for this, what a rip off.

I doubt Volvo even go to the trouble of unscrewing the Drain Plug!
Most garages seem to use a suction system and remove oil through the dipstick hole. May be OK for one or two changes, thereafter I would much prefer to get all the gunk out!

Does anyone know of any independent Volvo specialist (and also any Volvo Breakers) in good old Norn Iron?
