Space Saver Wheel Size

Hi All,

I'm looking to get a space saver spare wheel for my wifes MY17 V40 CC T3.

The car as standard has 17" alloy wheels. Does this mean I need a 17" space saver? Most available on ebay seem to be 16", but there is the odd 17" available. There seems to be a fairly big price difference, so just trying to work out which i need.

Can anyone who has a space saver confirm what size they have?

Thanks

As far as I'm aware all V40s have the same size spacesaver spare wheel, with a tyre size of 115/90R16.

As it says in the vehicle handbook, the spacesaver spare is smaller than the normal tyres and for emergency use only, which is why maximum speed is limited to 50 mph if it is fitted.

Thanks, that's good to know. I will see what i can track down.

Will the space saver fit in the space below the boor floor, it hardly seems deep enough.

You may need to add the high level boot floor which you can buy as an accessory. I have a T2 petrol V40 which has a shallow wheel well and the space saver spare will only fit with the high level boot floor.

Thanks, that what I wanted to know. I've also got a T2, that will put cost up considerably.

Thanks, I’m in the same position here.

I assume it isn’t practical to fit the full size 17” alloy here?

Wife has a 2015 r design d4 and didn’t realise there was no spare (just the foam) until the other day and I think I would be more confident in a spare/Jack etc.

You can of course fit a 17 inch alloy and tyre in the boot, as you would need to do after a puncture to take it for repair, but not in the spare wheel "well".

If you want to retain a flat boot floor, the only way is to fit the spacesaver spare and high level load floor. I actually like the high level floor. You can still fit small items beneath the upper floor around the spare, and it has the added benefit that if you fold the rear seats down, the boot floor and seat backs are all one level.

You do lose a small amount of general boot space, but anyone who needed a large boot probably wouldn't have bought a V40 in the first place ;-)

I suspect a new 5th alloy and tyre would probably cost as much as the spacesaver, toolkit and high level floor, if not more?
