Lifters

Hi all was seeing what people think, the lifters seem to be getting stuck on start up lately and the engine is tapping quite a lot.

I have read some posts on here about people changing the lifters and rockers and it has sorted it but couldn’t find any if the engine lasted long term only ones that seem to give up after a few thousand miles.

Mines on 188000 now it’s the 185 d5 56 plate and is due it’s cam belt next year too but don’t want to spend on it if the engine isn’t likely to last.

I want to keep the car as I had the gearbox rebuilt last November so I am tempted to change the engine for a lower mileage hopefully a couple of years newer so the lifters were sorted.

Any advice welcome thanks a lot

Daniel

Albeit not a permanent fix, have you tried a lifter additive?

Yes I have put some liqui moly lifter treatment in so will see how it goes, but decided will run it until it breaks then put another lower mileage engine in, I have found a place that can do it for £1500 so will go down that route as and when it’s needed, thanks for the reply
