Weight link to ABS warning ?
My XC90 has never given a hint of issues with its ABS setup - but this weekend motoring with four adults two children and a fair amount of luggage about two minutes into our drive (just as we hit maybe 50/60mph?) merging with dual carriageway a warning appeared on dash that the ABS (+ another brake related system whose name I can’t currently recall) needed a service
Any ideas if it will have been related to being overweight ? I would be surprised if we were over threshold as I say it was four adults and two kids and there’s not really much space left for luggage by that point ! |
I had an ABS problem that also triggered a DSTC problem everytime I went round a bend on a certain slip road. I was in the car alone so not a weight issue. It turned out to be the the rear ABS sensor. I think what was happening was that the sensor was getting damaged by 'swelling' rust on the driveshaft because the sensor had damage in that area and w
hen the car went round the bend, the weight distrubtion changed and structures flexed/moved, and the damaged/over sensitive sensor reacted and triggered the ABS and DSTCC fault. ABS sensor changed and all good. |
Very unlikely to be over weight as I’m sure the payload is 500kg plus driver. I have had this in our old one and it really squats on the rear suspension (at rest) with that weight in. Conversely it rises noticeably when the weight comes out.

Likely early stages of wheel bearing failure.
