Is Anyone Breaking a 340/360?

Hello all, earlier this month I was made aware of a 1988 Volvo 360 GLE for sale, with an interesting history. It was in the past owned by the Spanish Embassy in London, and lived a lot of its life travelling between London and Spain. The seller was reducing his car collection and was keen for the car to go to a Volvo enthusiast. So I hopped on a flight, flew down to Southampton, and then drove twelve hours back to Glasgow. Car made it no issues. Well, relatively so!

I’m keen to sort out some issues with it and hopefully it will go through its MoT in a couple of weeks with relatively minor work. But is anyone breaking one just now? I also have a ‘90 340 which I’m hoping to restore as well.

I’ll try and upload pics of my new ride once I A) take some, and B) figure out how to upload them here.

Thanks,

Joseph

I use Flickr to upload photos as it is really easy to use.

You will love the 360, I have had three (still got my 2nd one) they are brilliant cars if a little slow.

What parts do you need?

Sounds like you have a very interesting car, I would love to see some pics.

Ah fab, I have an old Flickr account, I’ll try and use that.

Parts-wise, I need to see what the MOT throws up, but I’ll be looking for a standard OEM Volvo Radio/cassette if possible, and a steel sunroof too as this one is rusting and the mechanism is pretty much had it. Will also need door speaker covers and grilles too.

Will upload pics soon 😊 I’ve always wanted a 360 GLT, but a GLE isn’t too far off!

Hi ClassicSwede,

Would you have a crossmember in stock for a 1989 Volvo 340 1.4? I may require two, posted to Glasgow if possible.

Thanks,

Joseph

Do you mean the crossmember or the ARB support beam? I have both

I’ll have a check with my mechanic tomorrow, my 340 I’m sure needs the crossmember, another car (a customer of his) I’ll check which part it needs.

My 360 went for its MoT today and needs a lot of welding, will be in the balance of whether it can be saved or not...

If you can... keep at it, hopefully any welding shouldn't be too expensive - looked like that car had potential and they're only getting rarer, I remember seeing the for sale ad.

I drove it back from Southampton to Glasgow in the one night (12 and a half hours, car managed it but it was a long drive for me), and apart from an erratic idle, possibly from a poorly set up carb or throttle body, the car drove back absolutely spot on and didn’t miss a beat. 477 miles all in.
