V60, V60CC, V70 & XC60 Recall

Potential engine failure due to crankshaft problem.

Details here

K5 Gus Nov 6th, 2015 11:06

Description : The crankshaft may not have been sufficiently hardened and may fail, this in turn can lead to sudden and catastrophic engine failure. The failure may be preceded by loss of power and a knocking noise.
Remedial Action : Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and replace the engine.

Ouch !! Anyone know which engine this affects ?

Edit : found my VIN number on the My Volvo site, and thankfully not affected

JRS80 Nov 7th, 2015 22:14

Checked mine too... Not affected. Phew.

This is rather worrying though, to say the least.

hi, is this something that we as owners are to respond to, or is it the responsibility of volvo to contact the owners

Bhowani 2 Dec 20th, 2017 11:20

Recall !

Not mine, but I do so feel for those who are going to "get the letter"

Presumably one of the "5" has blown up somewhere, and this is the follow-up!

Merry Christmas!

Recalls

Just ring your local dealer, they can tell you fairly instantly. also every volvo that visits a dealer for any reason has a recall pre check carried out before you arrive, and dealers using the vida booking system get a pop up window telling them a recall is outstanding persistantly on their screen! any that need doing will be done free of charge.

I looked here a while back (but it isn't currently working):- https://www.volvocars.com/uk/own/mai...rranty/recalls

Recall R29904

I've just received a recall letter for my 2016 model year V60 D4. Seems there can be small cracks developing in a rubber fuel hose. Unsurprisingly the most common symptom will be a smell of diesel!

This is now working and I just used it. No recall on mine!

V70 Recall

I have just received a recall letter for my V70 2016 D4 which states that "in a worst case scenario this may cause a localised fire in the engine bay" but they are saying it is an issue with the engines plastic inlet manifold which may melt or deform.
I phoned the number on the letter this morning but they will not tell me how long they have been aware of this. It is concerning as I have only had the for 5 weeks and it was sold as an approved Volvo car from an approved Volvo dealer and has already been back in 3 times with faults. Any advice?

Hello,

New here.

I currently own a 2012 V60 D5 Auto FWD.

Bought in 2014 from a Volvo dealer with 25.000 km and a full 2 years warranty.

In the end of 2014, with 50.000 km on the odo, a connecting rod snapped and took its way through the block, destroying the whole engine.

The incident was taken care of brilliantly, with a nice lended car during the 3 weeks wait, but clearly, the guys at volvo were a bit suspicious about how it happenned. There's even a "technical inspector" from the insurance company holding the warranty who phoned me asking if I didn't have excessive rpm...

(I told him If he had any serious qualifications, he could teach me how to do this with an auto gearbox, which took his askings to a qick end...)

In the end everything went fine, and now the car's still perfectly fine with 170.000 km, but today is the first time I read about an issue perfectly in tune with this.

v60 D4 plastic manifold recall

I had a letter some time ago from volvo informing me of a possible recall, some time later I heard on Radio 4 that there was a recall for the plastic manifold issue. Checked on the volvo recall web site entering my VIN number and it threw up "Recall incomplete" in red text. My vehicle is a 2014 V60 D4. it didnt enlarge on which recall was incomplete though so I need to contact our local volvo dealer tomorrow (05/11/19/

what that means is that the Recall is not launched yet , you will get an official recall letter when it is . Have you read the initial letter fully? If you get any of those symptoms you must get the car into a dealer ASAP and they will deal with it .

Seat belt bar recall ?

My "new" 2013 V60 has an outstanding recall from 2020 regarding some sort of seat belt bar problem.
Has anyone else had this ??
Will Volvo still honour the recall after three years ?

Best bet is to contact your local dealer to check. I’m fairly sure I left mine 18 months after the recall before I got it done.

A bit (but not much) off topic, I've just imported a 2013 T4 V60 from Japan.

Contacted my local Volvo dealer to give them the VIN and check if there were any outstanding recalls. Having imported a good few Scoobies, Ive come to find that the Japanese don't seem to keep up to date on any manufacturer recalls.

Volvo dealer response - "your VIN is showing as a V60 on our servicing system, but it then doesn't appear on the recall system at all"

They checked in their UK service 'teams chat' and the response was that being a Japanese delivered/registered vehicle, it won't show on Volvo's European systems. Which I find odd. I have been on the Volvo UK website and punched my VIN in and it didn't bring up any vehicle. Again, odd. The VIN I have matches the chassis/ original order sheet from Japan.

The service department recommended I contact Volvo UK directly to see what they can do. Which I have a few days back, but no response.

I know I will probably been quite alone with this, however, has anyone experienced this at all? Or have any advice?

Williamsonr3 Jan 4th, 2024 11:36

Randomly this has been resolved so ignore last, Volvo Glasgow managed to get someone down south to check a system and found all its warranty work and recalls.

All completed and it gave me an insight into the warranty work completed in Japan, sorted.

Finally managed to get the local dealer to book the seat belt recall in for next week !!

They confirmed the recall was from 2020 but no contact from the previous owner in the records.

A quick way to check for recalls in the UK is to use the DVLA web site. Check something like 'is my car taxed' or 'is the mot' valid. In amongst all of the stuff on the side you will be invited to check for recalls on your car.

I also run a BMW and I received a letter from them recently with a thick red border around the envelope. That's a serious recall.

Think the only recall for your model was about 18 months ago. I had my 2014 xc60 2014 d4 awd sat nav gear tronic done on my service it was for Front seat belt tensioner replaced. Driver & passenger. Although when thy did it they removed that little plastic bit at the seat that makes that bit all fit snug. Also didn't put the little plastic plug back on, that stops the buckle from falling right down to the seat. Very annoying.
