It sounds like the airflow direction 'flaps' are not moving - the airflow from the main cabin fan is directed through the climate control plenum box (centre of dash behind the waterfall panel) - attached to the side of this box are little motorised actuators which gently turn spindles attached to the air direction flaps inside the box. All of the desired airflow directions are managed by this box.

The actuators take instructions from the Climate Control system and take/send instructions as to the required position to move to commanded by the Auto setting or the Manual setting.

It could be that one of these actuators has failed or has slipped/skipped a plastic gear or no longer grips the spindle fully.

Ideally the car needs plugging into 'VIDA' Volvo diagnostics where these parts can be tested and fault logged to identify which part is faulty, other than this and unless it's really obvious which actuator is at fault by inspecting it and replacing with new I don't know if the system will need resetting/positioning using VIDA to get it working to factory specs again.

I can't recommend from experience but in the meantime a 'dirty fix' could be made possible by disconnecting the actuators and manually turning the air flap spindles by hand until you get air onto the screen, leave it there, and leave the actuators dangling but still wired (the Climate Control will think everything is ok) this might get you through the Winter but as I said I can't recommend this from experience. Other members might be able to advise further.
