Heater blowing hot one side, cold the other
 

Seem to have a recurring heating issue with my 2007 V50 - in 2009 had new air con system under warranty, went back in 2010 as condensation pipe had become disconnected and now the heater is blowing hot air on the drivers side, cold on the passenger side - even on lowest setting. Been to dealer today who has done a computer upgrade and problem still there.

Going back next week for further investigation but wondered if others have had similar problemsand what the cause was - dealer seems a bit stumped on this one!

Probably just needs re-gassing mine did this for a while sleds re-gassed and is fine now

Mine did that too - too lower coolant caused by a sheared off pipe... :mad:

Thanks for the replies. Issue was a faulty damper motor, apparently full dash removal, replacement and a bill of c£700! Given hisotry of previous heater problems and low milegae of car, Volvo graciously gave me 25% off the bill but still £550 but given summer's coming and the dash is aleady out, have little choice.

Love my volvo but not impressed with their attitude to customer care.

I can feel your pain, but this show how far cars have come over the past 40 years. 30-40 years ago, you were lucky to get 6 months warranty on your new cars and stuff like leaking radiators, damaged heater valves, broken water pumps, cracked distributor covers, broken seat frames, lots of rattles and unwanted noises, leaking doors, worn out suspension bushings and high oil consumption was fairly common experiences, often before getting to 30,000 miles.

That modern cars, with all their complexity, have as little faults as they actually have is simply amazing. But when something goes wrong, it is often very costly to fix. Both because parts, being complex, often cost an arm and a leg, and because quite often these costly parts are well hidden by other stuff that needs removal first.

I, too, expect cars to be trouble free for 10 years and 150,000 miles - but with so much to go wrong, you have to be really lucky to achieve that, unfortunately.

I had a similar problem with my (North American) V50. I could get heat out of the passenger side vents, but not the driver's side. Coincidentally, the driver's heated seat did not warm up even though the switches were illuminated. It turns out that the module for the heated seat was shorting internally and affecting the CAN bus. This prevented the heater damper motor on the driver's side from operating properly. They removed the seat module and were able to re-calibrate the damper motor. Later, they replaced the seat module and it all worked again. Total cost was $375, but they did not have to tear the dash apart to access the damper motor. That was a big relief. Thanks to everyone for posting hints that got me on right path!

Hi,

I had similar symptoms RHD C70, drivers side no heated seat an A/C blows hot on driver's side constantly and no other effects.

It turns out that the cable to the back of the waterfall dash wasn't clipped in properly. Once that was corrected, everything worked as normal.

Hoping that this helps someone else.

I had similar problem on 2008 Volvo C30 - heated seat not working, air distribution (floor/vent) motor not working, driver's side (LHD) constantly hot (motor not working). But it could be cold also.

After disconnecting the seat heater module (first disconnected the battery) I connected battery back and turn the ignition key to 2, I could hear motors re-calibrate and all were working!

Computer was giving me permanent errors on all items on LIN BUS 1 - LIN BUS 1, both left side damper motors of climate unit, left heater seat.

I haven't yet replaced the seated heat as it's getting warmer but I am happy to have solved main problem of constant heat and potentially dealing with hard access to the damper motors.
