Hi,

Does anyone know if this fits my B230E?

I know the website says it does, but when I look at more specific Volvo website the Bosch number should end in 228. Bosch doesn't seem to make it anymore though.

I would be very surprised if your coil has failed ...??

Volvos Bosch coils have a very low primary resistance for ultimate spark energy. you would be better buying this original volvo coil than anything new today..

I chucked it in the bin thinking it had and bought a non-Volvo replacement. Yes, I deserve punishment.

How's the second hand one any different? Other than being a bit cheaper?

That original used one will probably last another 30 years or more, the new one might do 5-10 years

Not sure what the engine problem is but replacement rotor arms can be another thing that can give difficulties: running/starting etc.

I have the same engine as you and within months of replacing the item it failed- solution was to go for a Beru brand and this has been fine to date, over two years.

Many replacement rotor arms for classic cars have had the same issues- keeping a spare in the car is also useful.
The comments from members regarding coils & long life for descent brands is spot on.

Well, I received the old coil and I don't trust it one bit. Doesn't really look like my old original one, and it also doesn't measure right (and it didn't fix my problem, but that could of course be because the coil wasn't the problem).

The Bosch coil and the old un-branded coil, both measure 1.1ohms primary resistance, which according to Haynes is the coil for computerised ignition systems. Sadly, my system does not match anything in Haynes.

However, that coil according to Haynes, should measure 9-11K Ohms. My old, un-branded one measures 8K Ohms but the Bosch one I bought only measures 5.5K Ohms which is far, far lower than any type listed in Haynes.

I just don't trust it. I'll buy the brand new one instead.

What are the chances of two coils producing the same fault? Very slim with one being an original and one being aftermarket

Exactly, and I don't want to confuse troubleshooting.

It would help enormously if anyone could tell me the resistance measurements for a correct, working coil as Haynes only lists US coils.

The new NGK coil I have now bought measures 1.1 / 8k which is the same as the new, two year old un-branded coil.
