DPF problem

Hi,After using forte dpf cleaner, wanting to try and switch off amber engine warning light, to see if it will come out of limp mode as revs limited to 3000 revs.Took both leads off the battery for about 10 mins .Replaced leads, switched on and amber engine warning still came on. Does removing the battery leads always switch off the amber light , or, as I think that it means that the problem still persists My car is C30 1.6 diesel 2010 only 44000 town miles.

many thanks

The warning light will illuminate as soon as the ECM realises that the differential pressure is outside of expected parameters for the engines current condition or status (idling, under load etc). No amount of battery disconnections or fault code clearing will sort the problem out. Given the nature of the vehicles usage, it would perhaps be a safe assumption that the dpf is experiencing the early signs of blockage.

That being said, a good first step would be to have the codes read by an appropriate vehicle communications interface such as VIDA DICE. Fault codes normally accompany warning lights when it comes to emissions related issues, so they are a good place to start. I have successfully removed, cleaned and reinstalled dpfs on these engines and have not had any issues since. The construction of dpfs would lead you to believe that they cannot be cleaned properly, but with enough patience you can have them almost like new. There are companies that offer this service if you don't want to go down the DIY route. This is of course assuming that the dpf is the cause of the issue. It could be a faulty pressure sensor, a leaking pressure hose, exhaust leak etc etc. There are numerous possible causes of dpf warning lights. Start with a fault code scan and take it from there.
