Volvo System Tester 9988686

Hi,

Volvo system tester 9988686

Can anyone tell me, is this tool for American cars only or can it be used on European cars?

What years does this tester cover?

What models does this tester cover?

and last but not least, does anyone have a working said tester for sale?

Thanks a lot.

1998 Volvo S70 2.5 10v auto
Immaculate 19,346 genuine miles.

I have seen it used on U-tube….

It’s a latter day plug in scan tool.

I’ve seen it used on U-tube by Robert DIY on an 850 reading most attributes on Motronic 4.3 ECU’s.

I do know 1990’s American cars were in advance of European cars when it came to the ECU’s used and scan tools available.

So we struggled reading late 1990’s cars and had to take them to a Volvo dealer whereas the Americans had access to DIY kit.

oh yes the T shaped black plastic device with a button pad and basic dot matrix display and plug in cartridge for the particular system you are working on, and OBD cable. called the Volvo Scan Tool . They are invaluable for the C70 roof set up . I have one but either it wont read the cartridges or the cartridges have lost their memory after 25 years .

Thanks…

Thanks for the reply…

If it’s useless to you broken and not working anymore gathering dust would you like to donate it as I would love to play around with it.

well I need to determine if it is the cartridges or the tool which is at fault. I have about 4 cartridges and none work which may suggest it is the tool unless the cartridges are known to go bad after 25 years..

Another S/V70 Scan Tool….

Another scan tool I’ve seen used on an American 1999 S70 is the Nexas NL100

Not sure were it’s from/made some say China others Russia.

icarsoft seem to sell Nexas kit.

The Nexas NL 100 says it works on European cars but at the end of the day it’s all down to to what ECU’s are in your car. You stand a better chance of finding a workable scan tool if you have Motronic rather than Fenix ECU’s.

It appears American 850’s could be read by a scan tool but the European 850’s
Use the old fashioned poke a stylus in a hole and count the flashes method.

The Volvo scan tool has various cartridges you could plug in for different engine managments, one of which was FEXIX.
