ATF fluid spec for 2011
I can't find the right ATF oil brand for my 2011 TF80SC gearbox. VADIS says that from 2010 and afterwards you need to use product #31256774 (4L container).
Even Ravenol has 2 options. So, what non-original product is the right choice ? RAVENOL ATF T-WS Lifetime RAVENOL ATF T-IV Fluid |
I use Ravenol ATF T-WS Lifetime which is the equivalent of BOT341

I would recommend confirming with the dealership. When I did my research for my 2010 V70 with the TF80-SC trans my owner's manual called for BOT341. My research as well as my local dealer confirmed that this lined up with JWS3309, Toyota IV, or Volvo #1161540.
Buuuut, apparently they switched the specs for the same transmission for 2011 models and onwards (for vehicles with same trans). From that point onwards they recommended Volvo 31256774/31256775, Toyota AWF-WS, or JWS3324. Don't mess around - make absolutely sure you get this right. |
I too was very wary of using the incorrect spec oil - did a lot of research before plumping for Ravenol ATF T-WS Lifetime now done over 11k miles using it with no problems at all.

Don't get this, 2010, and 2011 have the same gearbox, but different fluids??

Ok, here goes...
The new fluid is low viscosity and thus presents a bit less drag and power loss when pumping it around the place and particularly in the torque converter. The lubricating properties, additive package, detergents, etc are broadly similar. The software for the gearbox has to be written to take account of the possible range of viscosity (as it will change as the fluid ages anyway). Several manufacturers sell fluid that they state as "compatible" with both jws3309 and aw-1 specifications. However, you should find an asterisk next to the aw-1 statement, saying it will work but you lose the fuel economy benefit of the low viscosity fluid. The compatibility statement means that the higher viscosity fluid will not harm the box (of course, since the tf80sc was originally specced with higher viscosity fluid) So, basically, no harm will come if you use jws3309, but you may lose out on some fuel economy. If your vehicle was specified with low viscosity fluid (which I imagine it was as a 2011 car, but the onus is on you to check) then I would certainly be inclined to stick with it. If you're looking for low-cost, try carlube atf-lv or geforce atf-lv. |
Thank you
where will i find carlube atf-lv or geforce atf-lv. and are they aw-1 or 3309? |
