Loose wire, rough idle, and brake failure message.

I've got a 2007 XC90 V8 (made for the Australasian market) which I recently replaced the plugs in (OEM from reputable retailer). On testing the car after replacing the plugs it ran like a dog and smelt a bit fumier than normal. Took all the plugs out again and checked all the gaps (on advice from mechanic adjusted them from .044ish to .040 - they'd been damaged in transport so none of the gaps were pregapped). Still ran rough so went through and started checking the coils. One of them wasn't working at all and found that a wire had come loose (as per attached picture.). Does anyone know how to open up these connectors so I can get the wire back in properly? (you can see it's the blue wire that has been disconnected) The other issue (which may not be an issue once this is fixed) is that while going through and testing the coils I started getting an error message for brake failure. Any ideas on what that might be related to? |
Try putting the original plugs back in to see if it runs correctly again,just in case the reputable dealer has been supplied with counterfeit items
loads of fake plugs around now especially NGK. |
Maybe I didn't explain that very well.
Testing the coils involved putting an original plug back in. On one of the coils (pictured) it didn't fire the plug at all...after a bit discovered that one of the wires had come loose/out. New plug or old it won't matter as that coil won't go with out the wire back in place. I suspect it might have been loose and when I took the plugs out the first time it came out (and I didn't notice) thus one cylinder isn't firing. |
The connector housing can be removed normally quite easily. Look for locking tabs holding the body together.
Once the housing is off, the pins can be removed from the connector body. Sometimes this requires special pin removal tools, if you cannot get the pin out without damaging it, then visit your local auto electrician Once the pin is out the wire can be recrimped or soldered to the pin. |

Generally, the orange piece you see is a locking slider, that needs to slide out one way or another. All these connectors clip together, which means they all unclip. You just have to find the clip. |

Does ANYONE know how or what I need to get this wire back into the connector? Obviously I need to get it recrimped onto the metal contact.

I know from an earlier model. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F293067256373 They must be available, perhaps message the vendor. Alternatively could you get a harness from a breaker? This could be same as on a later model V70 so you may be able to buy one at a breakers off a scrap vehicle? Hope this helps John l |
