What's this crimp connector called?
Hi,
Is anyone aware what the exact name of this crimp connector is called please? https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...6ebf0441_z.jpg I depinned it from my S40's rear light cluster, this is in preparation for wiring a second (symmetric) foglight to the other side of the car, I'm trying to do it properly by using the correct connector rather than just jamming it in to make a connection with the wire. The closest thing I can find is MOLEX connectors but they seem to be much smaller (at least the ones I could see on eBay). Cheers |
If you were to cut it a few inches from the end, SOLDER on the new wire, then you could solder the bit you cut off at t'other end? That'd make it proper permanent.
I'm assuming you're just extending that one wire? |
That is simply called a pin
But the brand, model and part number are what you need Often you can buy pins with a piece of wire attached as a repair kit from Volvo. Ask them. |

When I needed to change one of those multiplugs on my Volvo I went to the local main dealer and bought the plug body and a number of the crimp type connectors for not much money (little enough that I didn't mind then and don't recall how much now). Best tip, don't try 'dry' asembling them into the plug as they are designed to not just pop back out (don't ask me how I know )

My volvo dealer failed to identify them or be able to supply them when I was installing dash cams on my xc70.
Not only that, having bought bags of connectors on ebay that looked as if they would fit and found they did not . I confirm it's a minefield. My local independent factor lent me his entire stock of connectors and none of them fitted the fuse box. I have a work around for what I needed but it's not the perminent professional job I want so am still looking. I have even tried a Ford dealer as my fuse boxes are marked FoMoCo with no luck. Paul. |

A word of caution
You may find that the bulb failure warning lamp/message appears when you try out your modified rear lighting set-up. Being of the red-block persuasion I don't know for sure.
V70s, XC60s and others have a balancing resistor for the reed-relay and adding a second 21watt lamp into the circuit unbalances it. There's an article in an old copy of the "Driver" that details one owner's work-around for the issue. (IIRC it's not quite as simple as by-passing the resistor.) |

There is a firm advertising in the Practical Classics magazine which specialise in electrical connectors, multiplugs and cables etc. but I’ve never used them. www.vehicleproducts.co.uk |
