2007 C30 T5 aux
 

Hi guys new to the forum and still getting used to it so apologies if this has already been asked (no doubt it has) basically I've just bought a 2007 C30 T5 and I have the model that doesn't come from the factory with the aux input. Just wondering if there's anything I can do to get around this? I've already tried the cd changer where it's supposed to trick the radio in thinking it's playing a cd but it's actually using the aux but this for some reason has not worked. Would I be able to simply swap out my radio for the model that came with aux function from factory?

In a nutshell - nope, every radio is paired to VIN number, cant replace it with better OEM one, cant replace it with aftermarket off-the-shelf one as we have fiber-optic connections, you can only get a dedicated aftermarket solution (500GBP+) or use FM transmitter, otherwise, deal with lack of AUX.

Search forum a bit, a lot of detailed info on "what can you do and why really nothing" regarding that topic, plenty of threads with similar questions.

I thought as much😭 any idea why the cd changer adapter wouldn't work? Had a polo a few years back that I done the same with and that worked fine but for some reason the Volvo just won't. Looks like it's back to the good old days of CDs for me then 😂

What exactly do you mean by "adapter"? What device is it and how did you connect it?
I had cd-changer emulator in my prev gen S40 but it was different technology (boot changer) so not sure the same principals would apply here :/

It's basically supposed to trick the stereo into thinking it's playing a cd changer except it goes through the aux. I used it on my polo as I had the same problem and that worked fine, can't understand what could be causing it not to work😭.

ah, one of those. Yep, that wont work with our cars. I know of someone trying that aswell but didnt work, its basically due to the fact that we have fiber-optic connections (MOST) and this is a simple analog socket. Maybe that would work with basic stereo system (some S40/V50 came with basic stereo that *maybe* was not using MOST, but Im not sure of that) or maybe its just misleading advertising by manufacturer, but Im afraid your options are limited to what I have listed earlier.

A wired FM modulator will give you the nearest thing you can get to proper AUX. This is not the same as an FM transmitter. You’ll have a 3.5 mm input, and it will play through an FM preset, but as it’s wired into the radio antenna, you’ll get no interference. I installed one in my V50. Works very well. There’s no MOST issues with it as it’s not tapping into the optic fibre connections.

Hmm, I heard of people hard-wiring FM transmitters to antennae, but didnt know a off-the-shelf product exists, nice! Do you have it? So connect this device to antenna-in of your radio, and plug antenna into the device itself? and then via button you decide if to use radio aerial or the modulator?

I have 15e worth FM transmitter and although it has very little interrferences and in general I am super-happy with it, I can see room for improvement.

Yep, I do have that very one.

This goes between the radio and the antenna. There’s a switch to select one of two frequencies, and you pick one. When you tune your radio into that frequency, it plays whatever to have plugged into your aux, and because it’s plugged right into the radio antenna, it’s signalnis much stronger than any broadcast FM signal, so there’s no interference. Other frequencies aren’t affected. So I have preset 1 tuned to this device, and 2-9 to regular radio stations. In the event that the modulator affects reception of any other radio station, there’s a switch on long wires you can mount or hide away, and use to turn it on or off. The unit itself is hidden in with the head unit. It requires 12v power.

Took maybe 90 minutes to install, it’s a bit of work getting the waterfall out. I had been using some cool little Bluetooth FM transmitters, and I usually didn’t have a problem with interference, but weirdly there were a few sets of traffic lights locally that caused interference, and from time to time I’d be cruising on the motorway and suddenly subjected to someone else’s music. So I got this instead, and all my problems (well, these two anyway) went away. I have a Tunai Firefly Bluetooth receiver plugged into the aux port. The car already has hands free, so I’m totally set up for wireless music and calls. Got a Mophie magnetic induction charging mount for my phone, so even my charging is wireless. Place my phone on the mount, and as soon as I turn on the engine, everything connects.
