2019 V60 Door open no audible warning?
 

Hi new member here.

Having had a quick search i cant find a similar complaint to mine. Had the car about 1 month now and really like it.We have the V60 D3 manual Rdesign Pro its brand new.
The other day my wife noticed after a considerable time that one of the back doors was on the latch and not shut correctly.
This was brought to her attention eventually by looking at the driver display and noticing the red door to indicate it was not closed.

My Question is should there not have been a warning tone to bring this to her attention sooner?

Is this the correct way this operates?

If so its the first car iv owned that works this way.

My XC90 is the same, just a visual display, you may get a warning chime if door is opened while moving or drivers door is opened when stopped but not in park. It may be just drivers door.

I should have mentioned that the car was being driven at speeds of up to 40mph before she noticed it on the display!! I really thought an audible warning would be initiated at the very least when the car is above 10mph?

My Audi is the same. I think they work on the principle that a red light on the dash ought to attract your attention...

Yes, a big red light shining before she even drove off should be sufficient. Imagine if your oil pressure had dropped to zero and she drove it a distance at 40mph. Or if it had a flat tyre, for which there is also a visual warning.

She no only had a red light on the dash of course, but the whole centre part of the panel will have had a great big graphic warning that a door was open.

The car we traded in a 2016 Peugeot 308 wouldn't release the handbrake and made a noise like a bloody nuclear alert if you attempted to move the car with a door open! I think personally there should be a noise to back this up as the drivers attention should first and foremost be out the windscreen looking ahead.

I do think i would have noticed this sooner but not everyone is the same and we are still transitioning from the previous car.

What if for example a small child is in the back and for some reason the child lock is not switched on? Door could easily be opened by the child without an audible warning as the driver would probably be focused on the road ahead. I just think this is an oversight especially given the safety standards of Volvo.

Whilst taking your point about a child in the back I feel that there are enough audible warnings already. Surely a drivers first 'responsibility' should be to scan the instruments before setting off.

Yeah i agree with what your saying in regards to having a check at the driver display before setting off. Its maybe just going to be a little change in the routine thats required.

My questioning relying on audible warnings continues. This PM started to reverse out of parking space in Tescos when the Cross Traffic Alert triggered. Looked to my right and there were 3 pedestrians standing a fèw feet away not moving and talking. Without thinking I continued to reverse out . BANG ! Into another car! Not too much damage but I know a new bumper will be £1200. The driver of the the other car shrugged her shoulders, said "don't worry" and drove off. The moral of the story----Don't get used to audible warnings:regular_smile:

I don't think we want any more bongs thanks! However it would be nice if the parking sensors actually alerted you of cars, trees, walls etc more/some of the time...
