DEMs interchangeable?

I have read that the DEMs on earlier Volvos 2000 to 2004 actually are replaceable with scrapyard DEMs, even though Volvo denied this.

2005 and later are permanently mated to the car's CEM. If I wanted to / needed to replace my DEM (V70 D5 AWD) can I use one of another Model (XC90, T5)?
Apparently they are all from the same Haldex range - Haldex 3.

Where do the DEMs differ?

DEM - Differential Electronic Modul = AWD control modul
CEM - Central Electronic Modul = Your Car's brain
