'89 240 won't start.
Hi all,
I'm sure a fair few of you are on the Facebook group but thought I would seek advice here too. 1989 240 GLT B230e Car wouldn't start a few days ago. Shorted fuse 4 & 6 can hear both the in-tank pump and the main pump running. Fuel pump relay doesn't 'click' anymore with ignition on. Replaced this with a 'known working 2nd hand unit' still no click. Shorted the FPR - pumps run continuously - car now starts, but idle is VERY lumpy/rough needs throttle to keep from stalling and it smells VERY rich. Any ideas? Could it be a vacuum leak or a fuel pressure problem? I'm not sure what to check next. Many thanks in advance! |
It would certainly be a good idea to rule out vacuum leaks -- trace every vac hose connecting in the the intake manifold. I had problems with disintegrating injector seals on my B200E causing idle problems. They are not difficult to replace -- there are two sizes that you need.

If you suspect fuel pressure issues, the pressure accumulator next to the underfloor pump is a place to start.

All sorted.
Was a faulty fuel pump relay and a vacuum pipe that had popped off. |
