Weber carb for 700

Hi. Just added an '89 740 estate to the ridiculous collection of Volvos. Can anyone sell me a manual choke Weber for this B230K car?

An '89 with a carb?!

Or are you intending a convert from fuel injection to carb?

The Weber kit is designed to replace the Pierburg.

The carb'd 740s ran up to MY1990.https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/images/icons/icon7.gificon12.gif

They are still available new... if you have deep pockets (full of money).https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/images/icons/icon7.gificon7.gif

Hi OBV.

According to my 1988 brochure, all models and derivatives (2.0 and 2.3 engines) had fuel injection.

Microprocessor controlled on 2.0GL (B200E) & 2.3GLE (B230E) and Motronic on the 740T (B230ET).

Regards, Prufrock.

They definitely ran to the end of the decade. I once had a 1988 740 with the B230K (or strictly called the B230KH engine). They ran the Pierburg 2B7 carburettor, which was a slightly modified 2B5 as used on the 1986 and earlier models. I'm not sure why your brochure doesn't include it? From MY1987 onwards they lost the 'GL' and 'GLE' and were simply badged as a '740'. They didn't even chrome the 740 badge on the base model!

Conundrum.

This is a conundrum OBV.

The 2.0(B200E)was introduced to the UK market, designed to give a boost to Volvos marketing effort in the fleet sector, it was launched initially as a GL(the B200E seems not to appear before the"E"prefix - from August 1987).

Let's go back: from 1988MY(from Q4 1987)the range looked like this, the GL was the B200E, and the GLE was the B230E. Later in the B200Es life it was available in both GL and SE - the SE more specifically targetting the fleet market"user chooser"(black finished exterior trim, standard sunroof, 15"wheels). It is at this time the carb car disappears -according to my information(emissions issues were beginning to play a bigger role and as far as I can see carb equipped cars generally are disappearing).

The 740SE was introduced sometime after August 1988, it seems not to appear before the"F"plate-1989MY?

Early in the 740s life, before the 745 was introduced, the carb cars were the GL and GLE, the only injected car was the GLT(early GLTs did not feature the later car's 16v engine), this is still the case in the 1986 brochure.

The"base"model you mention does not appear in any of my Volvo literature or in any other contemporary material I have(I am missing the 1987 brochure though).

Anoraky but interesting OBV, Prufrock.

My Dad has a 1989 facelift 740 on a carb, so they are out there!

Someone on the forum has a weber carb and manifold for one of these for sale right now, I think it's in the 240 parts for sale part of the forum.

Facelift on a carb...crikey, that's really puzzling.

Contradicts all my Volvo literature!

Thanks for the feedback though.

Prufrock.

P.S not a converted injection car?

LankyTim Mar 31st, 2012 14:33

As far as I know it hasn't been converted, it all looks factory and there isn't any redundant wiring hanging about.

I also believe you could get a carbed 740 up to 1989/90

My 1986 740 GLE had the pierburg 2B5 carb converted to the weber from eurocarparts.
