XC90 2017 D5 Fuel consumption

I've just ticked over 7000 miles on my 2018 model XC90 which I got I in June and I'm still only getting about 27mpg, combined is supposed to be 49mpg according to Volvo. I knew I would never get close but surely I should be getting well into the mid 30's?

Anyone else with D5's in a similar situation?

Firstly volvo are not allowed to quote their own fuel consumption figures , the ones you see are 3rd party government ones .

what is your average speed showing? needs to be over 40 mph for good fuel consumption , also make sure your tyre pressurers are around 38 psi . do you live in a hilly area ? how often do you go over 70 mph ?

I've only done 1600 miles and I'm averaging 35mpg

After 3200 miles, my 2017 D5 is 30.3mpg at an average of 28mph.
That's lots of short uneconomical trips around London with the occasional steady motorway journey up to Yorkshire.

4,000+ miles, and averaging 30 MPG, but that's with mostly short journeys around town. My long motorway journeys average around 45 MPG individually though.

8757 miles, 33.2mpg, Polestar
(17 plate D5 Inscription On 20 inch wheels)
Some of that with roof box

same as xc90 mark I... which has official combined of.... 34.
mark ii clearly optimised for the official test, no better in real life...
cheating software maybe?

Roughly 32 over 18,000. Mainly rural roads, with a daily school run of 4.5 miles each way, up hill on a relatively quick B road.

Not great really and you can't help thinking you'd be no worse off with a 3.0l smooth and quiet 6 cylinder. But maybe this s the point, the lower capacity engine performs better under test conditions. I know this is all changing for more real world figures, so it will be interesting to see the difference.

My signature shows my REAL average current mpg since getting the car and I have done 9500 miles. This is mainly sticking to speed limits and about 70% short journeys and 30% motorway longer journeys.
I did a 300 mile round trip on the motorway the other day averaging 70mph with me and a passenger and no luggage and average was 42mpg which is way off the quoted mpg but ok for a car this size.
Absolute joke all of these official figures and needs changing to something real life if there is any seriousness about environmental improvements.

I agree. My last car, an X5 40d had just this, and I averaged a not much worse 28-29mpg over the two years I owned it. I'm surprised I'm not getting much better figures in the XC90 as I do drive it differently - with lots more mileage on the eco setting. Early days yet, I suppose.
